Romans 12:2 KJV (WS)
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
It's Time For A Changed
Our opening bible reading speaks of the believers lifestyle which needs to be practiced on a day by day basic by all believers.
But if the truth be told we all struggle at varies times after that we are born again. God knew this would be a challenge. This is the reason for God empowering us with the Holy Ghost.
FIRST—CONFORMING
“Be not conformed to this world.”
The application here is not to the amoral world but to the moral world.
Amoral - lacking a moral sense; unconcerned with the rightness or wrongness of something:
Moral - concerned with the principles of right and wrong behavior and the goodness or badness of human character:
In other words this text does not condemn conforming to the world in using electricity, driving a car, having running water in your house, and shopping for groceries etc.
That is the amoral world.
What the forbidding here has to do with the moral world, with moral standards, matters of right and wrong, moral behavior, etc.
The Amish have missed the special importance, value, or prominence given of this verse in their lifestyle.
They do not conform to the amoral world but they certainly do conform to the moral world by their distasteful conduct.
They are not alone for many professing Christians are so worldly, you cannot tell the difference between them and an unbeliever.
1. The professing Christian drinks and smokes and tells smutty stories just like the world.
2. Churches are filled with divorce just like the world, and the attitudes of believers often reflect the attitudes of the world in that they are interested in nothing but the world.
SECOND—TRANSFORMING
Romans 12:2 KJV (WS)
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
The Apostle Paul gives the way of life for the believer and it is to be “transformed.”
• The meaning of transforming.
“Transforming” here means to change.
It is the same word used to describe the transfiguration of our Lord.
The change here is moral, for the application of this verse is moral, not amoral, as we noted above.
This should be seen in appetites, attitudes and actions of the believer.
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV (WS)
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
This should be seen in appetites, attitudes and actions of the believer.
• The manner of transforming.
“By the renewing of the mind.”
This transforming of the mind is not intellectualism and higher education.
To be changed or transformed morally, we must get into the Word of God.
It is the changing of moral attitudes by the infusion of the Word into out minds.
It is what David was speak about when he said,
Psalm 119:104 KJV (WS)
Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. NUN
• The motive for transforming.
“That ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.”
The motive for obeying the Word is to be able to know with certainty what is right and acceptable in God’s sight and what is the perfect will of God for you.
Many folk complain they do not know the will of God for their lives, nor do they know right and wrong well.
Such folk have not been transformed through the Word of God working in their minds.
