1 John 2:15–29 (NASB95)
Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever. Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us. But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know. I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the truth. Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also. As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. This is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life. These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you. As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him. Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming. If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him.
We have to start where we left off last week I told you there would be some overlap I hope this style of preaching is not only convicting but I hope it is teaching you
My prayer is that you will not only hear it but you would listen that you would meditate on in chew on it for a while. allow it to change how you think of God how you treat God how you live for God
Much of what I have said goes against most modern Christianity the feel good crowd if you will. That says there is a narrow road but paves a easy route when in actuality The lord said not only is it narrow its hard.
Consider my precious little girl this week we had to get on to her and disciple her. I know can you believe it she is so precious but trust me she can test me on my best day.
Now after the disciple was over I had her come lay next to me in the bed to talk with me. WE talked about back talking we talked about rolling the eyes we talked about interrupting people .
We began talking about these issues and others like you know your not to jump on the bed right ...... well yes so why do you do it? do you want to get in trouble because I don't want to discipline you but I will because I love you we talked through some of the other things that needed addressed and I asked her why she does it. She said its hard to be good.......
Yes it is matter of fact it can be flat out impossible without Christ
I explained to her how and why we disciple how the bible says that a many who does not discipline his son hates his son.
I explained to her thats because if we dont then our children will grow up to be what is natural to them which is bad , sinful people . But because God is so God he too disciplines those whom He love like a good father would.
So conciser what we have been talking about the last few weeks have you been chasing after your dreams or Gods have you been wanting your fun or Gods will, Love not the World these are not of God He who does
that Word Does is a strong word but a clear word
He who does the will of the father Lives forever
Here John Goes into the next thought he says antichrist is coming and not one only many and some were there during the time of John From this we know its the Last hour
Now im not going to go off on a rabbit trail here but it could be easy enough to do this
There has been the antichrist spirit since the garden of eden when adam fell “ The first Adam” by one man all men have fallen likewise
Jesus being the perfected adam the holy lamb of God by one man that all might be saved through Him
the anti christ is anything that is not of Christ or opposed to Christ
Its easy to Jump to revelation or Daniel and say but what about the Anti Christ when will he come
WE can look around the world is falling faster than I can breathe we can read in matthew 24 when jesus gives us signs of the end and its like reading a newspaper
But When we look at the fall of Rome Im sure many thought it was then
Or conciser the dark ages
Or the great bluebonnet plague
WW1 or WW2
so I try not to bother myself with that too much I live for the day for thats all God had assured me
but he does say by this we know the end is near so be ready at any time
remember last week we read about the virgins im going to read it again sometimes it takes repitition to really grasp somthing
Matthew 25:1–12 NASB95
“Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. “Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent. “For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps. “Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep. “But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him. “Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. “The foolish said to the prudent, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ “But the prudent answered, ‘No, there will not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.’ “And while they were going away to make the purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. “Later the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open up for us.’ “But he answered, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’
remember the context
Context is king in your Bible Study
This follows Matthew 24 the signs of the end times
The Key principle i want you to get today is the Live ready
Be ready
Be on alert
Its like the night before opening morning of deer season you have had this big buck on the trail cam you know he has been coming every day you are so ready to get out there all your stuff is packed you cant sleep because the excitement is so overwhelming gun is resting by the front door backpack is loaded camo is on the couch drinks made up all there is to do know is wait and you are so ready to go your just watching the clock
That's the anticipation we ought to have for the lord
Johns point back here in our text is simply this Be ready for the Lord he can come at any moment
Dont wait least you be caught without Him
And hear those dreadful words of the Lord Depart from me I do not know you
1 John 2:19–20 NASB95
They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us. But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know.
We as Baptist hold to the confession of the Preservation of the SAints
Sometimes we are critisized by the phrase once saved allways saved
I want to say this I believe that to be true If you are truley saved you will allways be saved
heres the problem the pentacost the church of Christ have with the baptist this doctrine is preached in such a way that it sometimes and dare do I say most of the time encourages people to claim jesus but live like the devil
Why not right Im saved you cant tell me im not saved I believe in Jesus right Im saved Im going to heaven
If im saved and always saved it doesnt matter what I do or how i live
Hear me people this is not what baptist have traditionally held to it was never until about 1920
The great puritans who lived their lives as a sacrifice to God Baptist the Amish the Mennonites who deny the world and the things of the world Baptist
now our new age baptist churches dont look much like our roots because what we traditionally held to is this
Philippians 2:13 (NKJV)
for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
Philippians 1:6 (NKJV)
being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
John 10:28–29 (NASB95)
and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.
1 Corinthians 10:12 (NIV)
So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!
(1 Tim 1:18-19
1 Timothy 1:18–19 (NASB95)
This command I entrust to you, Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you fight the good fight, keeping faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and suffered shipwreck in regard to their faith.
and then here is our text today
1 John 2:18–20 (NASB95)
Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us. But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know.
So how Does preservation of the saint look biblically
Its simple if God is the one who starts the good work in you He will finish it
How do you know if you are in Him
Remember a few weeks ago we read this
1 John 2:3 NASB95
By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.
If you truley a child of God you are drawn to Him and He to you, His word says if you Abide in my i will abide in you
Niow there are many who claim christ but live like the world this is exactly the thing John is talking about he is contrasting the true beliver with the fair weather fan of Jesus
And guess what only one will win the prize the prize of eternal Life
Hear me people
Hear me Me hear me woman hear me children John is saying this I write to you that your joy may be fuul that If you abide in hime he will in you , you can know that you are in him if you honor him in your life it is by this that we can have confidence that he who began a good work in me is faithful to finish it
It is not for the one that desires the World no not at all
The bible says we must forsake our old life that man must die that it is Him Who lives in Us
This promise is for the one who desires to please the heart of God
By this we can know
thats what John is saying here, what a relavant scripture
look at verse 22
1 John 2:22–24 (NASB95)
Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also. As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.
Titus 1:16 (NASB95)
They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed.
2 Timothy 2:12 (NASB95)
If we endure, we will also reign with Him; If we deny Him, He also will deny us;
If the condition To rein with Him the Promise
If the condition
He will deny us the Promise
1 John 2:24–29 NASB95
As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. This is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life. These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you.
