Football doesn’t matter

Hear me out.
Football is a game. That’s all it is. What makes football matter is the people involved. The players…the coaches…the opponents
These men around you....that’s what makes this game worth playing.
Every week you guys prepare to go against another team. You sweat, you work hard, you pour your heart and soul into a game. And if it is only about the game then it doesn’t matter.
Everything you do in regard to football needs to be about your team. It’s not about you and it’s not about a game. It’s about coming together as a team with a singular purpose. It’s about unity, teamwork and bonding.
Football…just as in life…is about relationships.
Captain Plumb- Top Gun pilot in the Vietnam war aboard the air craft carrier named the Kitty Hawk. He was one of the very best. He had flown 75 missions and was 5 days away from the end of his deployment and going back home.
On his 76th mission, he was shot down and had to eject from his plane. As he ejected his parachute tore in 3 places because he was so close the ground. That parachute was still able to save his life, however. The only problem was that he landed in enemy territory, was captured and was a prisoner of war for 6 years.
Eventually he was released and 20 years later he was having dinner with his wife in Kansas City when a man he did not know approached him. “You’re Captain, Plumb, aren’t you?” You’re the guy that was shot down and a prisoner for 6 years!
He answered, “Yes sir I am Captain Plumb. How did you know all of that?”
He was not prepared for the man’s response.
“Sir, I packed your parachute.”
Captain Plumb got up and shook his hand and said thank you. I’ve been praying for you ever since that day. Do you keep track of all the men you have saved?
“No sir. It’s enough gratification to serve and do my job well.”
They ended that conversation
