Tithe and offering

Take my church past the cross

The last time I spoke we talked about John 20:19-22
John 20:19–22 ESV
19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
We talked about the locked doors that you might be hiding behind, what is the evidence you are looking for, the peace of God and the secret sauce.
There are essentials for life. What are some of those?
Breath! Breath is a sign that someone is alive.
When you think of breathing it’s made of two parts the inhale and the exhale. It’s something that we don’t have to think about doing.
The bible talks about breath a few different places. In Job is says
Job 7:7 ESV
7 “Remember that my life is a breath; my eye will never again see good.
Psalm 144:4 ESV
4 Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow.
So we see that our life is like a breath. It comes and it goes.
Where else in the bible does it talk about breath? Let’s look in Genesis 2

1. His breath gives us life

Why didn’t God just command life to come into adam? In Genesis 1:26 God said that we should make man into our image to be like us. But when God breathed into Adam there was life in that breath that could only come from God.
There is such intimacy in this picture of God breathing into Adam.
Job 33:4 ESV
4 The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Where else does it talk about breath in the bible? Let turn to Ezekiel 37.

2. There is power in his breath

Acts 2:1–4 ESV
1 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Have the worship team come up

3. His breath gives us direction

2 Timothy 3:16 ESV
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
This book is literally the breath of God.

Closing

I truly believe that we can have the word of God and read it and still be dead. Even the devil knows the word of God. In John 20 Jesus breathed on them. We need the spirit of God to breath on us.
