Faith will have you doing some crazy things at least from the world’s perspective. 23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict. 24 By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 25 choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward. (Heb 11:23–26).
Today in Sunday School we learned of Moses birth and how his mother hid him until he was 3 months old. Then he was placed in a basket and set adrift in the Nile River only to be drawn from the river by Pharoah’s sister. In a plot only the Lord could orchestrate. Moses sister Mariam negotiated for his own mother to nurse with wages until he was weaned.
Hebrews reminds us this was an act of faith on behalf of his parents. Faith says we will trust God and his outcome. We will move him faith instead of fear. It was clear they were not afraid of Pharaoh’s order or the consequences of not following it. They risked their own lives to save their son.
His parents knew that every male child was to be killed and thrown into the Nile River. Risking it all they saved this child. who would be raised in the palace as Pharoah daughter’s child.
“George Muller, a great man of faith, once said, “God delights to increase the faith of His children. We ought, instead of wanting no trials before victory, no exercise for patience, to be wiling to take them from God’s hand as a means. I say---say it deliberately----trials, obstacles, difficulties, and sometime defeats, are the very food of faith”.
Hebrews not only speak of Moses parents faith but speak of Moses’ faith! (Heb 11:24–26).
Moses could have embraced his privilege of being the adopted son of the royal family as the daughter of Pharoah’s boy, but he chose not to do that.
Moses was willing to refuse to be known as a son of Pharoah’s daughter (Hebrews 11:24). If you had been Moses, could you have made the same choice?
Faith will have you do some crazy things at least from the worlds perspective.
What we need to know is he considered the reproach of Christ greater than the wealth of Egypt.
What are you willing to give up to follow Christ.
Paul said, 7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. (Php 3:7–11). Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles.
What is Faith?
11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. ......3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
1) From faith to faith: Paul tells us in Romans 1:17 That ... “the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith” (ESV). “ From faith to faith means faith is at the beginning of the salvation process, and it is the goal as well”. We are justified by faith and grow through faith”. (Nelson” New Illustrated Bible Commentary).
2) Necessity of faith: “... without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him” (Hebrews 11:6 ESV)
There you have it! Is this the man God would use for so great a task? Yes! Why? Because inside of Moses was that one characteristic that all unlikely heroes need: Faith!
As we will see, Moses’ exhibited great faith. We see it when he killed the Egyptian soldier, 27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible. (Heb 11:27).
I. He had faith in God (verse 27)
After Moses was called by God to go, like Abraham before him, he went. But he went back to the familiar place of his birth and childhood. Exodus 5-13 reveals that there he boldly challenged the Pharaoh on God’s behalf, often revealing his passion through his thunderous words, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel. ‘Let my people go!’”
He bravely stood time after time, receiving Pharaoh’s scorn and rebuke while relaying God’s message. The plagues he courageously announced and executed without hesitation, finally leaving Pharoah no choice but to send the Hebrews away.
Moses developed such a close fellowship with God that it put a fire in his bones. Witness the confidence in His voice and the trust in his God when he announces to the people as they stood anxiously before the Red Sea: “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent” (Exodus 14:13-14). Then read his song to the Lord in Exodus 15:1-18.
Multiple times along their wilderness wanderings, as they grumbled and complained, Moses would defiantly defend God with the question, “Who are you to test the Lord?” and remind them of His goodness to them.
Faith ‘Faith’ means trust, confidence, assurance, and belief”
