Welcome
This morning
We are going to take a breakish from the Parables of Jesus although it is still what Jesus taught
But this morning I wanted to take a step back
If you look at the world today as compared to when you were younger or a kid or even when you had kids yourself things are a lot different
I am sure 30 years ago they had a sermon about the same thing
But unless you live in a hole in the ground and have no contact with the outside world you would know things are defiantly different
And yes sometimes change is good but I can attest to the change that we are seeing today is not good at all
Some of you may want to argue and say but there are pockets of change to that I would say that is the exception and not the rule as we look at today’s world
If you noticed this morning is Titled Gone With the Wind
Has anyone ever seen the movie?
I watched it when I was in High School or Middle School it was on 2 VHS Tapes
It was released in 1939
When it was released it made over 390 million and it cost 3.8 million to make
It starred Vivian Leigh, Clark Gable, Olivia do Havilland, Hattie McDaniel and Leslie Howard
Hattie McDaniel won Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Award for her role in Gone with the Wind
She is from Wichita, KS and is the first black person to win an Oscar
Something else happened in Gone with the Wind
It opened the door I believe to the problems we see now
Gone with the Wind is credited with using a curse word in the filming
The famous line by Rhett Butler
Up till Nov 1939 the rule was that word he used was not allowed and then it was changed in Nov 1939
And since that change and since that word it has been down hill ever since
If you were to watch Gone with the Wind today you probably wouldn’t notice it since if you watch TV or movies today there seems to no code saying what is appropriate or allowed and what is not allowed
And then it is easy for us as believers to get frustrated and begin to point fingers at Gone with the Wind
But
18“If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you.
We shouldn’t be surprised now that the world will hate us because we are different
Church we shouldn’t even be surprised that the world is different from us because Here Jesus is saying that
Hey understand the world will hate you but remember they hated me first
THe world is going to be different
John the Baptist would go on to say that we shouldn’t be surprised by this
We shouldn’t be surprised by what is going on in our world because if we Read Scripture and church you should be reading scripture you will know that it says all this would happen
I think much of our time as churches are spent in shock of what is going on in the world right now
But if we have been reading scripture it shouldn’t be a surprise to us
IF you read Romans 1
25For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
We are living ins a Romans 1 world
We live in a time where people have exchanged the truth which is God’s word for a lie
notice is doesn’t say a truth because truth is no relative it is not your truth or my truth
Truth is not subjective it is objective
There are not many truths there is one truth and His name is Jesus Christ
Church we are very much living in a world today where people have exchanged the truth of who they are women or man and exchanged that for a lie from the pit of hell that you can change who you are
I heard a radio program talk about this and no matter how many surgeries you have or how many drugs you take at the cellular level you are still either male or female and that is what you were born
We have exchanged the truth that marriage matters for the lie that it is ok to get divorced, no one is willing to fight for their marriage
Church being married takes hard work
We have exchanged the truth that God knit you and I together in the womb for a lie that it is just a lump of cell and there is no actual heart beat so its not a baby its a fetus and its ok to kill it and remove it
We are exchanging the truth that repentance and faith leads to salvation for a lie that well as long as you are a good person you will get into heaven and there is no need for repentance
The truth is that there are a lot of really nice people who are going to hell because they have refused to repent of their sin and trust in the Lord as their personal Lord and Savior
WE have exchanged the truth that sin is bad for the lie that a little sin is ok
Or the lie as long as your sin is not that bad its ok
No where is scripture do we see Jesus condone sin of any kind then why in the world do I allow it in my own life
Our response to sin is to flee like our life depends on it because it absolutely does
Do you see church how we have exchanged the truth for lies of this world
in 1939 we exchanged the truth that what goes into your body will effect it for the lie a little curse won’t hurt
And because we gave an inch satan came and took the world
But church we shouldn’t be surprised by this because read in Romans
We read it in the Gospels that we shouldn’t be surprised
20Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness;
Who 1substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
21Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes
And clever in their own sight!

This is where we live church
our world today is upside down and sometimes it is hard to see which way is right
It’s as if you when rolling down a big hill and now you are trying to walk and you are all wobbly and have to take a minute to get your bearing
And for some of us we have been waiting and waiting for this world to get its bearing
Our world is so back words that in schools we don’t know what a boy is or what a girl is
And that its ok for boys to compete against girls at high level sports
Our world is so backwards that some people in power believe there is no baby heartbeat at 6wks
And church we could probably go on and on with how backwards our world is
Last one but our world is so backwards that KU is at the top of the Big 12 in Football and OU is at the bottom
It is sad and heart breaking to see this happening
To see our friends and neighbors and family do exactly this
And our first reaction is go and tell them how wrong they are
Boy you are so wrong you don’t even know
Can I tell you just maybe the time for those conversations is not on social media, is not from a lofty point and pointing down at people
But we as believers have a hope in this upside down backwards world we are living in
Church our hope in this world is Jesus
It is not the past president, the current president or the next president
It is not the current Governor or the next Governor
It is not the current congress or the next
We do not live and die by what happens in Nov
Church our only hope for our city, state, nation, world
Our only hope is Jesus
And as believer in Jesus Christ we do have that hope
And dare I say it we should be doing something about that
We are to live boldly for Jesus
32 “Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. 33 “But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.
We are to live boldly for Christ
Our job is at opportunities through out the day to proclaim Jesus
if we proclaim Jesus in front of men Jesus says he will proclaim us in front of God
But church if we deny and refuse to proclaim Jesus in front of man God says he will deny us in front of God
You will not be perfect
Church you will miss opportunities
But you and I are to learn as we walk with Christ and as we learn we are to grow and get better at not missing opportunities
There are those people who flat out refuse to proclaim Jesus publicly
Remember last week these are the people who refuse to come to the Wedding Feast
Those people God will say depart from me I never knew you
Those people are not saved
Church we are to live our lives in such a way that God gets all the glory
16 “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
We are to live in such a way that God gets all the glory
We are to let Jesus shine through each and everyday
In each and every situation
That requires work I know that but we are to live our lives so boldly that people see our lives and how we are living so that they glorify God
Remember the old saying your life is the only Bible some people will ever read
Meaning if we just live our live in front of people for Christ that is all we have to do
That is not quite right
We do need to live our lives in front of people for Christ
But how will they know to glorify God by our lives if we do not tell them
15 but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;
We are to live our lives in front of people for Christ and then tell them with our words about Christ and what He has done in our lives
Church as believers we are to be prepared to share with people why we have hope in this lost and crazy world
We are to be prepared to share with people why we are different
Church we are to be prepared to share with people that no matter the outcome of Nov we still have hope
We are to be prepared to give an account for why we still have hope no matter who is president or who is governor
Or what the courts have to say
Church to live out boldly we must prepare ourselves to give an account of our hope when the stock market continues to dive and when we have absolutely nothing in this world to our name
Church the way we prepare ourselves to give that hope is to walk with God
To get up and read, pray act, and repeat
To get up and act out the play book
To study the play book and then do it
TO Nike, JUST DO IT
In this life there are lost people who are hurting
They are lost and have exchanged the Truth that is Jesus for a lie and because of that they are hurting
And church that should not surprise us one bit because we have read it in scripture
But we can do something about it
Let me leave you with this this morning
3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
This is it church
God desires all men to be saved
God chooses to use us, His children to reach others
We can live and should be living boldly in such a lost world that when people see we are different it opens the door for us to give a reason why
And church that reason why is, Christ and we can share Christ with the world
As we move to our invitation this morning
It is just that
We would invite you this morning to do business with God
Maybe you are here and do not have a personal relationship with Him you would like to begin a personal relationship with God this morning
You can and talk with someone who will show you through scripture how you are to repent of your sin and trust in Jesus
Or maybe you are here and you need to spend sometime in prayer at the altar
Or maybe God is calling you to join Maranatha Baptist Fellowship this morning
