Psalm 127:1
Psalm 127:1
Christian Standard Bible (Psalm 127)
Unless the LORD builds a house, its builders labor over it in vain; unless the LORD watches over a city, the watchman stays alert in vain.
Christian Standard Bible (Nashville, TN: Holman Bible Publishers, 2020), Ps 127:1.
Luke 6:46-49 ““Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things I say? I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, hears my words, and acts on them: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the river crashed against that house and couldn’t shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears and does not act is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The river crashed against it, and immediately it collapsed. And the destruction of that house was great.””
This is a faith that is founded on Christ.
This is a faith that takes action.
This is a faith that takes preparation.
Active listening leads to active living.
We are supposed to come to Jesus to get the information. Then when we apply it, we get transformation.
The only way we are going to become more like the person of Christ is to be around the person of Christ in prayer and in His word.
In this passage, we are being taught by our Lord the necessity for our lifestyle and conduct, needs to be consistent with the commitment that we made to Jesus when we made Him the Lord of our life.
Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.”
A life built on Christ is rooted in Scripture.
We have all heard that a bible that’s falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn’t. And that is what we see here in this passage in Luke. We see the difference in someone’s life when the storms of life come. And they will come.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
Joshua 1:8 “This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth; you are to meditate on it day and night so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do.”
This is why Jesus is asking the church, why do you call me the Lord of your life but dont do the thing that I say. We aren’t going to know what to do if we dont read our bibles everyday and and apply them to our lives.
I want to give you a challenge this week and this is rhetorical. Only eat food this week on days that you read your bible. Evceryone will feed their physical bodies but too many in the church are starving their spiritual bodies and dso many of us are so spiritually emaciated that we cannot function and so when the storms come down on us, we crumble and fall.
A life built on Christ is rooted in being around fellow believers.
Hebrews 10:24-25 “And let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works, not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching.” “not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching.”
1 Thessalonians 5:11 “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.”
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 “Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their efforts. For if either falls, his companion can lift him up; but pity the one who falls without another to lift him up.”
A life built on Christ is rooted Prayer.
Philippians 4:6-7 “Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
Matthew 18:19-20 “Again, truly I tell you, if two of you on earth agree about any matter that you pray for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there among them.””
This verse is about praying together in a group
Matthew 6:5-7 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
We need to have quiet time alone with Jesus everyday to maintain our daily lives
The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), Mt 6:5–6.
We have to have a fervent prayer life. We need to isolate ourselves with Jesus on a daily basis for at least 15 minutes a day and add more to it. Start by setting a timer and put your phone and devices on airplane mode so you can have true alone time with our Lord. You make time for the people you care about. If you arent making time for the Lord and His word, then you clearly don’t care enough about Jesus as much as you should, and that should really alarm you. Since Jesus is the only way the only truth, and the only life. Amen?
Joshua 24:23 ““Then get rid of the foreign gods that are among you and turn your hearts to the Lord, the God of Israel.””
Conclusion - Put Jesus first, the rest will follow.
What am I putting above Jesus?
Am I really living like Jesus is the Lord of my life?
What are the steps in the right direction that I MUST take today, and put into practice about being intentional with my relationship with Jesus?
Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.”
