Genesis 12:1–3 ESV
Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
Matthew 28:19 ESV
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Revelation 7:9 ESV
After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands,

5 Bad Reasons Not to Consider Using Your Summer for Kingdom Impact

1. I’m too busy

Actually, your college summers are the most open you will ever be for the rest of your life.
Think about it:
Full time job: it’s 12 months out of the year. You don’t get summers unless you work as a teacher, but even then, there is a ton of prep to do over summer.
Get married and have kids: You need to hire a babysitter for 8 weeks. Ya right, or leave your spouse for 8 weeks. Ya right.
Reality: The problem isn’t that you are too busy, the problem is your attitude.

2. That’s for the other people

This is where we all start. We think doing a missions trip or summer training is for those, “more committed” people.
There comes a point when you decide who you are going to be. When you realize God can use you. God is looking for people who will say “yes” to him.
It’s true that not everyone gets accepted to go on a trip or to do a training program; but don’t rule yourself out.

3. It will interfere with my plans

It’s true, you can’t say “yes” to everything.
Work/internship: You will be able to work for the rest of your life: but you will never be as free as you are now to do a summer Missions trip.
Vacation plans: Josh Jenkins story.
You might be able to go on a cool vacation. But what ultimate impact is that really going to have?
Or, you can use your summer to make an impact that will last for eternity.
It really comes down to your priorities. You choose to say yes to what is most important to you.

4. I’m broke

You actually aren’t going to pay for the trip.
We will raise funds for the trip.
In my time at Challenge, I’ve never known of anyone who wasn’t able to go because the money didn’t come in.
Same with OneLink

5. I don’t want to

Two senses
I don’t see why it’s appealing/fun
That’s not really the point: The point is you are being a part of fulfilling God’s plan on earth. And there is a deep joy that comes from that.
But actually: What I found, was that as a byproduct; it was one of the most fun and exciting times of my life.
I don’t care: John 21:17
John 21:17 ESV
He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.
The real question is, do you love God.
I just don’t think you can say you love God, but don’t care about reaching the lost, or being a part of the mission he has called us to.
