How To Fellowship
What does it mean to have fellowship with someone.
I looked up the word in the OT and the NT.
I figured it was not used very often in the OT.
However, it is used few times.
In Psalm 94:20
The context of this Psalm is someone who is crying out to the Lord to take care of evildoers.
The idea of the word in Hebrew means to join something together, like in construction.
In Greek, it means something like 2 people sharing.
So what we are about to read has to do with sharing things in common with the Lord.
Does that sound like something you want?
Cristy and I and our kids have fellowship together.
We share a home.
We share our lives.
I may not have much myself, but God has all things.
Today, we are going to talk about How To Fellowship with God.
Look To Him
We live in a world of darkness.
I went hunting for a bit yesterday.
It got dark.
I turned my light on
Jesus is the Light
Again and again we see Jesus being called the Light.
Especially John
We should reflect that light.
Jupiter is still really bright
The moon should be bright over the next few days
If you want something to shine brighter, What do you do?
If it’s a flashlight, ...
If it’s a mirror?
What does it mean to walk in darkness?
Walking in sin
There’s a difference between walking in sin and having a sinful life
How?
Confess To Him
Everyone has sinned.
Psalm 51 was written by David after he had committed adultery and murder.
My guess is that he was at his lowest place he had ever been.
We are born with a sinful nature and we sin.
The ones that believe that we are born good, don’t have any children.
No matter how hard we try, we cannot stop sin completely.
Every one of us fall short
I don’t think we understand God’s standard
Most of the time we thing about the acts we do wrong, but it’s not just what we do, it’s also what we think.
No matter how we slice an onion, there are layers to it and it can make your eyes water.
We can sin because of what we do, what we think, and what we don’t do
So what’s the answer?
Confessing = cleansing
He will forgive
He will cleanse us
If we confess
One of the worst sins is the sin of pride.
It leads to our downfall
The pride of thinking we can somehow earn our salvation may be the one that sinks us
No matter what we’ve done … we are
Accepted With Him
We have an advocate
We don’t need a priest, we have Jesus
We sin, we can pray to Jesus
He will defend us.
so ...
Don’t give up
Keep on keeping on.
We often get stuck in the mire of our sin.
This doesn’t mean there aren’t times we don’t get down
When we do, we need to turn to Jesus
Because …
He is the payment
He is the sacrifice
He paid the price for us
We don’t have to worry about what will happen to us
He died for us
He paid it all
