Psalm 127:1–5 (KJV 1900)
1 Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: Except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
Home is build with a plan a process
There is a choice will you build it
Will God build it
Everyday you call out to God asking for his wisdom
Every aspect of our family we are to draw from God’s principles
If you coast you will have temporary ease
Later it will be more difficult
If you build now it will be easier later
Except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
We are watchmen - constantly
Family - that doesn’t end
children
grandchildren
you can’t do that on your own
Church -
You must walk with the Lord to have the wisdom to watch
2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, To eat the bread of sorrows: For so he giveth his beloved sleep.
Worry, depression, despair = it’s vain
I know what it’s like to worry, not able to sleep
that doesn’t help
3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: And the fruit of the womb is his reward.
These children are from the Lord
4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; So are children of the youth.
our Children are to be warriors, yes weapons
Rom 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
Rom 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
Don’t yield yourselves to be weapons of unrighteousness
5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them:
They shall not be ashamed, But they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
Galatians 4:1–3 KJV 1900
1 Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; 2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. 3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:
Galatians 4:4 KJV 1900
4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
As a Christian this is one of the most perilous times to have a family
The enemy will try to discourage you
There is no guarantee that the ones we
The future of the church is at stake, and I do not exaggerate
If we fail to pass on our faith, there will be those that perish
A little boy came to church today, if this church wasn't here
We are passing on a faith to the next generation
Though a child positionally will be an heir
He is a servant until the father says they are ready
Our children have an amazing opportunity to see victory, miracles, and the ability to assume authority in a heavenly kingdom -
I fear the faith of many will wane when persecution comes
I fear the house of faith that many have been constructing is built with wood, hay, and stubble rather than durable riches of eternal value
Proverbs 22:6 KJV 1900
6 Train up a child in the way he should go: And when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Train = discipline, dedication, and guidance
There is a purpose in parenting
So it is in the Christian life - there should be dedication, discipline, and guidance
Loose cannon Christianity leads to loose cannon children
Instead of us raising trees that are planted by the rivers of waters, people of supposed faith have been training children to be aimless tumbleweeds going wherever the wind blows
We brought children into the world we are responsible
Child = infant to adolescence
Training begins in the womb
I remember singing to our children in the womb
Preparing for adulthood
Training children for responsibility
In the church we are training for responsibility
It is a sad state if we as Christians won’t look around for needs to be filled and then
Children are not growing up into adulthood - their age is changing but their wisdom
It’s the Father’s Job to know where your children are spiritually, mentally, and emotionally.
It’s a father’s job
Deuteronomy 6:5 KJV 1900
5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Deuteronomy 6:6–9 (KJV 1900)
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
Love for God is the foundation for a home and family that will Glorify the Lord
Any home, that at it’s foundation, has a sincere love - A love that is with all it’s heart, soul, and might will bring up children that love the Lord
Any church, that at it’s core, genuinely loves the Lord with all it’s heart, soul, and might will bring up children of God that love the Lord
If we are trying to instruct children
If we are trying to disciple believers without a sincere love that consumes all our heart, soul, and might it will lead to humanism and heartbreak
A loss of love for God will always lead to heartbreak
Teach them diligently unto thy children
As we teach our children in homeschool - There is a plan
There is intention
There is purpose
There is a direction
We are not leaving the training of our children to chance
Diligence = intention
What is your plan to help your children to become a Godly child
vs. 7 and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house,
Ways
Worship
Word
and the Will of the Lord
This is not just a moms job
In times of leisure, you talk about The Lord
Do you joyfully converse about God
vs 7 when thou walkest by the way,
Turn the radio off
Turn the TV off
Spend time investing in the instruction and eternity of your children
Walking, driving, Singing scripture songs
vs. 7 …when thou liest down,
As a parent, you get tired but we must remind them of th word of God
What is the last thing you talk about before you go to sleep?
Pray with your children parents
vs. 7 ...when thou risest up.
If you love the Lord with everything, your family will know
If you love the Lord with all
coworkers
older children
family
your church will know
8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
Scripture should be close to you as a child of God
They should please you
Scripture should make you happy
Scripture should be the centerpiece
9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
Posting scripture where you frequent in your home
We received a gift a while back, scripture artwork
On our walls in our home
Gates = When we come in and leave the property we should be reminded of Scripture
Psalm 144:11 KJV 1900
11 Rid me, and deliver me from the hand of strange children, Whose mouth speaketh vanity, And their right hand is a right hand of falsehood:
Hand - terror, attacks, pain of lost children
Strange - heathen, godless
Children - relationships
God save my children, save the children of our neighborhood
Give my children a heart for you
Rid me of the pain that a lost child will bring me
Please help my children
Strange - Reasoning of the Heathen
Psalm 144:12 (KJV 1900)
12 That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; That our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace:
as plants grown up in their youth = Like a high tower, Advanced, body, soul, and spirit
Taking care of themselves
I’m challenging us to ask a question, “What do you do before you go to sleep?
Watching movies
phone
computer
iPad
TV
Games
These things affect your emotional and mental health
Make a rule to not watch anything before you go to sleep
insomnia
worry
depression
fear
anxiety - how much of this is caused by stimulating our brains
Your families sleep is important
have a devotion time with your family before you go to sleep
Reading novels
Do you eat right before you go to bed
Our children write the Bible before their schooling
We do no help to our children by not teaching them the importance of taking care of their bodies
In Youth - have great maturity
That our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace
Corner stone = solid, steadfast, unmovable in the faith, like a foundation
similitude of a palace = radiating like the glory of a temple, the presence of God on their life - Like a Glorious Temple
Evidence of the presence of God
This takes intention
Psalm 127:1 KJV 1900
1 Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: Except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
Our Goal in parenting is Godly Children
Our goal is not good kids...
When life is uncomfortable, just having an average home
We are striving for excellence in our home
How do children respond when they don’t get what they want
Godliness is an empowered spirit sustained by God in the midst of trials
It’s inner spiritual power rather than outer conformity to a set of rules or spiritual regulations
This is what our children need
2 Timothy 3:5 KJV 1900
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
This is an exterior conformity rather than an inner power sustained by God
Difficulties test our inner spiritual strength
Do we erupt emotionally
If parents are erupting emotionally our children will
We are not trying to fight fires and be referees
What happens when your rights are violated
being good until your are violated is not godliness
1 Timothy 2:9 KJV 1900
9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
1 Timothy 2:10 KJV 1900
10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
1 Timothy 2:11 KJV 1900
11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
Deep devotion to God = women professing godliness
1 Timothy 3:16 KJV 1900
16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
A rootedness in the person of Christ
Complete devotion to God
We are preparing for the future
We are preparing for hardship
1 Timothy 4:7 KJV 1900
7 But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
1 Timothy 4:8 KJV 1900
8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
Exercise in godliness = an overflow of spiritual power strengthened by God himself
From a heart of devotion to God
1 Timothy 6:6 KJV 1900
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
Galatians 5:22 KJV 1900
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Virtuous, Godliness
Godliness sustains in all seasons of life
If I’m not good I will not be able to have what I want
That is not our goal
If I’m good I will get rewards
We desire the character of our children to go above just doing what is right to have what they want
In marriage how does that work
In the work force how does that work
When life doesn’t go our way there needs to be something greater that
What does your name mean?
Among our neighbors? Your name means something.
In your church? Your name means something
Pro 22:1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.
Ecc 7:1 A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.
Luke 10:19 KJV 1900
19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Jesus subjugated the spiritual realm to us
Luke 10:20
Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
Everything is done with the fingerprint of love
This story is set after Babylon's first attack on Jerusalem
4 men of the royal families
1-6 = Some of the experiences of Daniel
7-12 = visions of Daniel
I. DANIEL’S NAME His name means, “God is my Judge.” Daniel’s name indicates his awareness of God’s presence.
Practice awareness of God’s presence.
II. DANIEL’S BLESSINGS AND BURDENS
1. He was of royal blood. Daniel 1:3, “And the king spake unto Ashpenaz...that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes.”
2. He was taken to a strange land. See Daniel 1:3
Daniel 1:3 KJV 1900
3 And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes;
3. He was wise and well-educated. Notice in Daniel 1:4, 6 the words, “skillful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science.”
III. DANIEL’S PURITY.
1. Daniel had great temptation. See Daniel 1:5
Daniel 1:5 KJV 1900
5 And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.
and I John 2:16
1 John 2:16 KJV 1900
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
2. He purposed (set out) not to defile himself—review Daniel 1:8
Daniel 1:8 KJV 1900
8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
3. He chose to deny himself rather than to sin. Read Daniel 1:12
Daniel 1:12 KJV 1900
12 Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.
Any Christian is far better off eating beans for the Lord than sirloin for the Devil.
4. He and his friends had God’s blessing. See Daniel 1:15-20
Daniel 1:15–20 KJV 1900
15 And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat. 16 Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse. 17 As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. 18 Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar. 19 And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king. 20 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.
Notice especially verses 15, 17, and 19.
IV. DANIEL’S POWER. (Tell the exciting story of the king’s dream and Daniel’s interpretation, as given in Daniel 2.)
V. DANIEL’S FAITHFULNESS.
1. Daniel could be trusted. See Daniel 6:1-3. Daniel’s trustworthiness and superb attitude are evident in verse 3, “Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him, and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.”
2. Daniel was blameless. See Daniel 6:4, 5 and
Titus 1:6 KJV 1900
6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
Titus 1:7 KJV 1900
7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
3. Daniel’s enemies lied! Read Daniel 6:7
Daniel 6:7 KJV 1900
7 All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellers, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.
Not all the presidents wanted the decree, for Daniel was a president also!
4. Daniel believed in “doing right if the stars fall.” See Daniel 6:10
Daniel 6:10 KJV 1900
10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
Many are willing to do right if they can be sure that it will turn out okay.
5. Daniel had a testimony of faithfulness. Review Daniel 6:16
Daniel 6:16 KJV 1900
16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.
6. God delivered His faithful servant. Notice in Daniel 6:26
Daniel 6:26 KJV 1900
26 I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.
Daniel 6:27 KJV 1900
27 He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.
the wonderful words Darius spoke of our marvelous God: “He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.”
