12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.

mind, understanding.

Signifies the faculty of thinking and the results thereof; may reflect an attitude.

The noun appears in the NT mainly in the letters of Paul.

It is a key term for describing the faculty of thinking, thought processing, and understanding (Rom 7:23; 1 Cor 14:14; Rev 13:18; 17:9).

In certain instances, nous signifies a person’s way of thinking or attitude.

In 1 Corinthians 1:10, when Paul asks his listeners to have the same mind (nous), he is in effect requesting a unified attitude and approach to unity.

The word nous can be used of the mind of God (e.g., Rom 11:34), not only of humans.

δοκιμάζω (dokimazō).

Describes the quality of being approved or the act of testing or proving.

The verb dokimazō is used in the NT in the sense of testing, evaluating, proving, or examining both things and people

(Luke 14:19; Gal 6:4; 1 Thess 5:21; 1 Tim 3:10).

It can also be used in metaphorical references to testing buildings (1 Cor 3:13) and precious metals (1 Pet 1:7).
