His joy in Faithfulness
His joy in Righteousness through Jesus
His joy in Running the Race
Ultimately, His Joy in the Lord

His charge? To stand firm in the Lord

Keys to Standing Firm in the Lord

Conflict Resolution

Philippians 4:2–3 ESV
I entreat Euodia and I entreat Syntyche to agree in the Lord. Yes, I ask you also, true companion, help these women, who have labored side by side with me in the gospel together with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.
Conflict Resolution
Part of what turns people off about the church, which is a reflection on its savior, is dissension and conflict!
Matthew 18:15 ““If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.”
Just the first element alone would shut down most conflicts. Keeping it within and keeping the devil out!

What do we have to argue about if our names are written down in the book of Life?

Minor Doctrines?
Carpet Color?
Paint color?
Order of Service?
Lengthy Sermons?

Finding Peace

Philippians 4:4–7 ESV
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finding peace starts with Rejoicing in the Lord.....ALWAYS!
Reasonableness = Peace
Why? The Lord is at hand!
Philippians Exposition

Christ is coming; why do you put yourself out? The Lord is near you to help you; why are you so excessively anxious? Why are you so carried away with the present temporary trial?

Partnering your prayers for the things your are anxious about with the remembrance of God’s faithfulness!
Not your circumstances, but HIS FAITHFULNESS
His Grace is sufficient
His mercy is new every morning
His forgiveness is complete
His righteousness freely given
His loving Kindness is ever lasting
His covenant is ever lasting
His blood is all covering
His name is above every name
His Name is Jesus and He loves me and is My Savior!
DO you think we have things to be thankful for in the midst of our trials?
This process is the pattern we see in the Psalms.

Psalm 3

Psalm 3 ESV
A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son. 1 O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; 2 many are saying of my soul, “There is no salvation for him in God.” Selah 3 But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. 4 I cried aloud to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah 5 I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the Lord sustained me. 6 I will not be afraid of many thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around. 7 Arise, O Lord! Save me, O my God! For you strike all my enemies on the cheek; you break the teeth of the wicked. 8 Salvation belongs to the Lord; your blessing be on your people! Selah
The result, A peace that no one can explain. It makes no sense! And that peace will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Focusing On His Faithfulness to stand firm

Philippians 4:8–9 ESV
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
Focus on these things, not only in the Lord, but also in each other and in yourselves.
1 Peter 1:6–8 ESV
In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,
This is Truly what it means to take joy in the Lord.
