Ephesians 1:15–16 (ESV)
For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints,
I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers,
Introduction
I want to use the evaluation of the Ephesus church today. to allow us to understand how easy it is to derail.
Derail is when a train accidently leaves the tracks.
I want you to see how we derail in our spiritual walk. It is so subtle that you maybe derailing and not know it.

Influence by the Nicolaitans

Revelation 2:6 ESV
Yet this you have: you hate the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
While they stayed away from this group of people. you had another segment of the church that lived influence by the same group.
Revelation 2:15 ESV
So also you have some who hold the teaching of the Nicolaitans.
Explanation
Who are these group of people?
The Nicolaitans taught that some degree of participation in the idolatrous culture of Ephesus was permissible.
This is the group that would say: stop with your reliegious ways.
They advocate complete freedom in christian conduct including participation in heathen feasts.
Following the teaching of pleasure for themselves
Aplication
God says in Rev. 2.6, that He hates this way of living.

Derailing from the love of Christ.

What is happening with the church of Ephesus? There defect was a matter of heart rather than head.
Always follow your heart, not your mind or head.
I believe this is when God saw that they no longer love, but had a hard time loving .

Always remember that God’s love is a choice instead of a feeling.
Explanation
Derailing from God’s perfect love is real in these day and age.

Do you find yourself drifting from God? Let’s look at some signs:
Heb. 2.1 - It a silent attach.
Look warm spiritual life. Mat. 26:41,
Your spiritual life begins to suffer. It gradually happens.
Your prayer life begins to be affected.
Misconceptions of the word of God, will have us drifting from Him.
You begin to have a lost of Kingdom interest. (don’t really want to come to gatherings from the church) Plus you start to be more attracted by the world around you.
