Acts 2:36-47

Acts 2:36–47 ESV
36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.” 37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. 42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

Radical Church

What is a church? What is special about it? What do they do?
What makes a church a church?
Do you view the church as radical? Why or why not?

Radical Message

Acts 2:36 ESV
36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”
Jesus is the crucified Lord and Messiah
Our message is Jesus
Who He is & What He Did
Why Was He Crucified?
Who Crucified Him?
At the heart of the gospel is not be good..try hard..it is Jesus.
The gospel starts with what He does..not what you do.
Do you understand what Jesus did? Can you share about him?
Why is the message of Jesus so radical?

Radical Response

Repent, receive, baptize, Spirit
Acts 2:37–41 ESV
37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The message of Jesus changes us. One way or the other, when you hear the message of Jesus there are two possible responses. You can not hear the message of Jesus and just be comfortable.
If I tell you this building is on fire…you can either believe it or not…you can’t believe it and not run out. If you don’t run out..you don’t believe it. So this message is a radical response. Now if I tell you 2 times 2 is 4, or Polar Bears are white…or even something like, “I’m cooking chicken and rice tomorrow”…you can belive it and it doesn’t really effect your life. It does not require a response…the message of Jesus requires a response. You can recieve it and obey, or reject it and disobey..but you can’t say “Yeah I belive Him” and not respond.
What does it mean to repent?
Why do we have to repent?
What does it mean to receive Jesus?
What is baptism?
You recieve…God works in your heart..and you act.

Radical Devotion

Teaching, Love, Breaking of Bread, Prayer
Acts 2:42–45 ESV
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.
Why did they dedicate themselves to the Word? Jesus is no longer here..but He still speaks through His word.
Why must we dedicate ourselves to the word?
What is fellowship?
Is fellowship something important?
Breaking of bread?
Prayer?

Radical Impact

People in Awe-What were they in awe of?
When God is moving and working..people will be in awe! In awe of your kindness..in awe of your love!
Praising God
When God starts working..people start praising Him! God is moving and working.
Radical Generosity
Why were people being generous?
People Being Saved
Acts 2:46–47 ESV
46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
You see..church is radical! We see it in the first church!
A Radical Church is made of Radical People?
