Truthfulness:

Lexham Survey of Theology The Bible’s Truthfulness

Because the Bible is the word of an absolutely truthful God, all of its teaching is truthful.

Storyline:

Deuteronomy 18:22 ESV
when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him.
Psalm 18:30 ESV
This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.
Psalm 119:142 ESV
Your righteousness is righteous forever, and your law is true.
John 8:26 ESV
I have much to say about you and much to judge, but he who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him.”
John 10:35–36 ESV
If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be broken— do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’?
John 17:17 ESV
Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.
2 Peter 1:19–21 ESV
And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Beliefs:

Subjective versus Objective Truth
Lexham Survey of Theology The Bible’s Truthfulness

To say that Scripture is infallible means not only that it contains no errors (“inerrant”) but that it cannot possibly contain error. The fact that the Bible is God’s word excludes even the possibility of error, because God cannot lie or be mistaken.

How do you establish truth? What do you believe is absolutely true?
In other words, how do you establish what you consider to be true or false?

Our Response:

We have to identify a foundational truth in our life.
We have to submit our opinions to that foundational truth.
We have to do this in community.

Discipleship

Processing our response to this truth.
Who in your life has the ability to correct you when your off track? (we aren’t talking about morality, we are talking about living a life that doesn’t reflect Christ)
Do you know what you believe and why you believe it?

Time for you to be a theologian...

Do you believe the Bible to be totally true in every respect?
Why do you think that?
Could the Bible ever be wrong, if so, in what circumstances?
