Romans 3:19-22

Vs. 19: There are no exceptions to the rules
-no one is safe from Judgment
How do have you viewed God’s judgment in the past?
How do you view God’s judgment now?
That every mouth be stopped.
The Pharisees wanted to boast about all they knew and practiced and judged people accordingly
They added laws and complicated things
Usually men’s mouths praise themselves, speak of others short comings or both.
Luke 18:10–14 NKJV
10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’ 13 And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
God’s judgment doesn’t consider your high notions of yourself or the religious profession
Theres a double conviction here for the Jews, not only as sinners, but also transgressors of the very Law they gloried in.
It’s stops the vanity
That every mouth be stopped and the world become guilty
That word guilty here Hypodikos
Judgment vs accountable
How do you feel about excuses?
Do you own up to your shortcoming or make excuses?
Who holds you accountable?
Who motivates you to do better?
Vs 20: It’s not about outer justification
Blood sacrifice/justified through lambs and animals that were spotless
made a physical/temporary atonement for sin
Hebrews 9:22 NKJV
22 And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.
Atonement for an offense or injury
The covering for sin was a repair under the old covenant
What happens when you repair something?
Have you tried to cover something up and made it worse?
The old covenant was a yearly covering of sin
Justification through Christ exonerates you from wrong doing
Through faith in Jesus and His blood he has given us the final proof that we are free
How do you keep in remembrance of that Proof?
The sole purpose of the law was to show the need for a savior
Vs. 21 The law and the prophets pointed to a savior
How were you pointed to a savior before you met Christ?
God already had a plan in place before Adam had even sinned
Genesis 3:15 NKJV
15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
Isaiah 7:14 NKJV
14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
He prophesied a virgin birth and Jesus
A plan of redemption to all of us
A principle that God could work outside of (the shedding of blood)
It was one thing that God could just forget about our sins but instead a paid a costly price at the expense of His son
V 22 it’s for all who believe
Unity in Christ
Christ broke down the barrier to entry
What freedoms do you experience in Chirst?
