Don’t Ever Forget - 1 Cor. 11:24-25
If we would be so humble and tell the truth, we would agree
that we are forgetful people. It is no wonder; then, parents
would remind their children to look both ways before
crossing the street. Brush their teeth before going to bed and
when you wake up. Wash your hands before touching the
food. It is because we are forgetful people.
The intruder of forgetfulness creeps in and desecrates our
minds.
Some person may steal him away from your heart, and you
are unmindful of him upon whom your affection ought to
be set.
Worldly business absorbs your attention when your eye
should progressively be fixed to the cross.
The continual chaos of the world and the constant lure of
worldly things takes away the soul’s mind from Christ.
Our memory too often preserves a poisonous trace, and the
rose of Sharon suffers in our souls to wither away.
It seems then that Christians do forget Christ and what He
has done for them/us! If there were no suspicions that we
would forget, there would be no need for this loving
exhortation. This is not a farfetched rendering from the great
Apostle because it has been confirmed in and through our experience, not as a possibility but as a fundamental fact.
The Bible is filled with words from God reminding His people not to forget. QUOTE SCRIPTURE!
You would think it impossible, then, that those who have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb of God, those loved with an everlasting love by the eternal Son of God, those secured by the prayers of an interceding God; should forget. But, as surprising
as it may sound, the fact yet remains. We are forgetful.
Paul then wants to remind the church of Corinth; Don’t Ever Forget!
Don’t forget him, who never forgot us! Don’t forget him who shed his blood for our sins! Don’t forget him, who loved us even to the death!
So, coming to this table every 1st Sunday of the month, Don’t Ever
Forget!
Don’t forget first, HIS BODY that was beaten, bruised, battered for
you. Who knew no sin but became sin for us. Who died with common criminals even though he was a King. Who endured the torture of lashes that ripped his skin. Don’t Ever Forget that could have been you.
And Don’t Ever Forget second, HIS BLOOD that dripped from his tears in the garden, that blood that bought our salvation. That blood that covers all our sins. That blood that has power wonder-working power. That blood reaches the highest mountain and flows to the lowest valley. That blood that will never lose its power! That blood that streamed down from his side on the cross. Don’t Ever Forget!
Let us commit ourselves to bind a holy and heavenly Never Forget
covenant in our hearts for Jesus our Savior, who we now come to remember in this Communion Service. May the Spirit of God take the Word of God, apply it to the people of God, to make us more
like the Son of God!
