Who gets a place at the Table?

The Pharisees prioritized RULE-KEEPING over COMPASSION.
Luke 14:3–4 NIV
Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?” But they remained silent. So taking hold of the man, he healed him and sent him on his way.
The Pharisees were consumed with FOMO—FEAR OF MISSING OUT.
Luke 14:7 NIV
When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table, he told them this parable:
Luke 14:15 NIV
When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, “Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God.”
They obsessed over the RULES because they were afraid of MISSING OUT on the Kingdom of the Righteous.
Luke 14:5 NIV
Then he asked them, “If one of you has a child or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull it out?”
Jesus (AND MOSES) preached a kingdom based on GRACE to which EVERYONE was invited.
Luke 14:17 NIV
At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’
Luke 14:1 NIV
One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee, he was being carefully watched.
Luke 13:16 NIV
Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?”
Jesus warned the Pharisees that they were in danger of MISSING OUT on the Kingdom of GRACE.
Luke 14:11 NIV
For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Luke 14:13 NIV
But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,
Luke 14:24 NIV
I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’ ”
They were missing out on GRACE because they couldn’t accept a Kingdom of GRACE.

Eating with Jesus Today

God is GRACIOUS—he provides for his people and his PLAN.
Genesis 1:28–30 NIV
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.
Sin takes root when we doubt God’s GRACE—and start looking out for “WHAT”S MINE.
Genesis 3:4–6 NIV
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
The Kingdom of GRACE is always open to us—all we have to do is ACCEPT it.
“There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God: “Thy will be done,” and those to whom God says, in the end, “Thy will be done.” All that are in Hell, choose it. Without that self-choice there could be no Hell. No soul that seriously and constantly desires joy will ever miss it. Those who seek find. To those who know it is opened.” ~C.S. Lewis, The Great Divorce
