Here we find the PRINCIPLES in prayer used by Jabez.

I. The Person of Prayer.

And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying,
Whom do you pray to?
What is the Bible way of praying?

II. The Petition of Prayer.

Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed,
Are you praying for blessings or possessions?
are you praying for blessings for self or service to the Lord?
“indeed” (1828)
adv. [in and deed.] In reality; in truth; in fact.
Romans 8:7 “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.”
Indeed is used as an expression of surprise, or for the purpose of obtaining confirmation of a fact stated. Indeed! is it possible? is it so in fact?

III. The Production of Prayer.

and enlarge my coast,
What coast of yours needs enlarging?
Your bank account?
What are you doing with your money now?
The story of a man (Ashby Blakely) that used the prayer to ask for souls he could win to the Lord.

IV. The Power of Prayer.

and that thine hand might be with me,
Can Christ bless you in what you are doing?
Psalm 73:24 “Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.”

V. The Protection of Prayer.

and that thou wouldest keep me from evil,
When you pray do you ask the Lord to keep you away from evil?
Jesus taught us to pray like this?
Who taught Jabez to pray like this?

VI. The Position of Prayer.

that it may not grieve me!
Are you grieved by evil?
The Lord is.
1 Thessalonians 5:19 “Quench not the Spirit.”

VII. The Plan of Prayer.

And God granted him that which he requested.
Do you get prayers answered?
Why not?
Psalm 66:18 “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:”
