Christ has returned! He comes in the fullness of judgment where he conquers the beast, the false prophet, and all of His enemies.

Revelation 19:11-16 - The True King and Lord
Revelation 19:11-16 - The True King and Lord
11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse!
11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse!
Then I saw heaven opened
The gaze of John is drawn up to heaven
Visionary language
And behold, a white horse!
A white horse signifies military victory as Christ is the great divine warrior
The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.
The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.
The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True
Christ is the Faithful one who will keep His covenant
And in righteousness he judges and makes war.
Jesus’ judgment includes both salvation and damnation - those who follow Him are saved and follow Him into battle against those who hate Him
12 His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself.
12 His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself.
12 His eyes are like a flame of fire
14 The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire,
Jesus’ vision pierces to the soul, nothing is hidden from Him, and His judgments are truly accurate
3 And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord.
He shall not judge by what his eyes see,
or decide disputes by what his ears hear,
4 but with righteousness he shall judge the poor,
and decide with equity for the meek of the earth;
and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,
and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.
5 Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist,
and faithfulness the belt of his loins.
And on his head are many diadems
These reveal that Jesus is truly the only One who is the sovereign ruler
3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
And he has a name written that no one knows but himself.
He is personally known to us yet is simultaneously transcendent - there are still things about Christ that our minds will be unable to grasp
13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God.
13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God.
13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood
The robe has blood because He is coming a second time to issue judgment against His enemies
2 Why is your apparel red,
and your garments like his who treads in the winepress?
3 “I have trodden the winepress alone,
and from the peoples no one was with me;
I trod them in my anger
and trampled them in my wrath;
their lifeblood spattered on my garments,
and stained all my apparel.
Christ is coming as the divine warrior to bring deliverance to His people AND destroy His enemies
And the name by which he is called is The Word of God.
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Jesus Himself is God’s very Word which is the message of the Gospel bringing judgment upon an unbelieving world
1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, 2 which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, 3 concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh 4 and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, 5 through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations, 6 including you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ,
14 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses.
14 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses.
14 And the armies of heaven
Both human and angelic
Arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses.
Like Christ, they ride white horses
The army is good and pure
The forces of God and Christ are set against the forces of evil
15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron.
15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron.
15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword
The sharp sword represents Christ coming in judgment
From His mouth comes vast power
With which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron.
4 but with righteousness he shall judge the poor,
and decide with equity for the meek of the earth;
and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,
and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.
8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
and the ends of the earth your possession.
9 You shall break them with a rod of iron
and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”
He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.
He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.
He will tread the winepress
20 And the winepress was trodden outside the city, and blood flowed from the winepress, as high as a horse’s bridle, for 1,600 stadia.
Of the fury
Of the wrath of God the Almighty.
16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written
King of kings and Lord of lords.
Christ is the universal sovereign God who is the great eschatological warrior
Revelation 19:17-21 - The Beast and False Prophet Conquered
Revelation 19:17-21 - The Beast and False Prophet Conquered
17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly directly overhead, “Come, gather for the great supper of God, 18 to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave, both small and great.”
17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun
He heralds a message that Christ will win the war against His enemies
And with a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly directly overhead, “Come, gather for the great supper of God, 18 to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave, both small and great.”
17 “As for you, son of man, thus says the Lord God: Speak to the birds of every sort and to all beasts of the field: ‘Assemble and come, gather from all around to the sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you, a great sacrificial feast on the mountains of Israel, and you shall eat flesh and drink blood. 18 You shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth—of rams, of lambs, and of he-goats, of bulls, all of them fat beasts of Bashan. 19 And you shall eat fat till you are filled, and drink blood till you are drunk, at the sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you.
Sacrificial feast birds are invited to where they will eat the flesh and drink the blood of Israel’s enemies
Here the enemies are not the nation of Israel, but still the covenant people of God
Imagery used here depicts the destruction of those who are not in Christ Jesus
Victory is already guaranteed
19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army.
19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army.
19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war
12 And the ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received royal power, but they are to receive authority as kings for one hour, together with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they hand over their power and authority to the beast. 14 They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.”
Against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army.
2 The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying,
Becomes eschatologically fulfilled
Why do they fight the true King? Hate
20 And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image.
20 And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image.
20 And the beast was captured
Roman Empire
Secular human institutions/nations who oppose the triune God and His people
The human/angelic army play NO PART
And with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image.
The false prophet is the false religion/propaganda machine leading people to anti-Christian worship
These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.
These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.
These two were thrown alive
Into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.
Though the beast and the false prophet are powerful, their power is puny compared to the sovereign power of Christ Jesus
21 And the rest were slain by the sword that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.
21 And the rest were slain by the sword that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.
21 And the rest were slain
The rest are those who despise Christ and are not in Him
By the sword that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse
The word of Christ slays His enemies
And all the birds were gorged with their flesh.
Christ is victorious!
