God, the Creator

God’s power is revealed in the initial creation and the continuing sustenance of the universe. Humanity represents the climax of the Creator’s purposes.

Nehemiah 9:6 NKJV
6 You alone are the Lord; You have made heaven, The heaven of heavens, with all their host, The earth and everything on it, The seas and all that is in them, And You preserve them all. The host of heaven worships You.

God’s creative activity demonstrates his uniqueness

Jeremiah 10:11 NKJV
11 Thus you shall say to them: “The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth shall perish from the earth and from under these heavens.”

He creates the spiritual world

Psalm 148:2–5 NKJV
2 Praise Him, all His angels; Praise Him, all His hosts! 3 Praise Him, sun and moon; Praise Him, all you stars of light! 4 Praise Him, you heavens of heavens, And you waters above the heavens! 5 Let them praise the name of the Lord, For He commanded and they were created.

He creates through Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ, as creator
Scripture identifies the pre-existent Jesus Christ as involved in the work of creation, and relates this to his work in redemption, by which a new creation is brought out of the ruins of the old.

Jesus Christ created all things

John 1:3 NKJV
3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
1 Corinthians 8:6 NKJV
6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live.
Colossians 1:15–16 NKJV
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.

Jesus Christ sustains the created universe

Hebrews 1:3 NKJV
3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Colossians 1:17 NKJV
17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

Jesus Christ will bring the entire work of creation to perfection

Ephesians 1:9–10 NKJV
9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him.
Colossians 1:20 NKJV
20 and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.

Jesus Christ makes a new creation possible

Jesus Christ recreates people through a new birth

2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Galatians 6:15 NKJV
15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation.

Jesus Christ’s work of new creation should be evident in believers’ lives

Ephesians 4:24 NKJV
24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
Colossians 3:10 NKJV
10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,

Through Jesus Christ a new heaven and earth will be created

2 Peter 3:13 NKJV
13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
The promise was given in Isa 65:17; 66:22. See also Rev 21:1,4-5
Isaiah 65:17 NKJV
17 “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.
Isaiah 66:22 NKJV
22 “For as the new heavens and the new earth Which I will make shall remain before Me,” says the Lord, “So shall your descendants and your name remain.
Revelation 21:1 NKJV
1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.
Revelation 21:4–5 NKJV
4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” 5 Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”
