Love our Lord

What is the most important thing about chess club?
Chess
What is the most important thing about a basketball team?
Basketball
What is the most important thing about astronauts, space
It make sense right??
When it comes to community its important to see that it is usually built around something in common.
When we look back to the community of the Old Testament we can see that the Israelites where God’s people , their community was based around the love of God, YahWeh as his name.
Their community, what they did who they called themselve, how they acted was built around their love of God.
Much today that is how our church is built, that we would love God and that would be our connection to each-other as a foundational building block.
Jesus states in Matthew 22:34-38
Matthew 22:34–38 NIV
Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.
Let our foundational building block be that we love Jesus.
As a church yes, but even as a youth group, I really hope you come here and notice that this is a group of people that love Jesus and/or want to know more about him.
In essence we are the Jesus Christ Fan Club.
that is our natural posture when we meet together, why would I come to church every week if there was not Jesus Fan Club meeting? that would make no sense, I love y’all but the first reason I got involved in this club is because I wanted to learn more and share more about my deep love for all things Jesus Christ.
Seriously, that should be our very first perspective of the Church, a Jesus Christ Fan Club
I hope you recognize that when we gather together we get to share about the awesomeness that is Jesus Christ, without the perspective that this is werid. it is not, nobody is gonna be like, ok but why are you talking so much about Jesus.
It’s normal to talk about Jesus here, so when you come to youth or you come to Church I want you to take part in the club by:
asking questions
discussion god in your week
raving about how he showed up in your week
At the Jesus Christ Fan Club we love to talk about Jesus.

Love our Neighbour

Then our next role in community is that we would love each other, that when we leave the fan club we do not leave the fan side of our lives behind and rather to take it with us.
What does that mean? well it would mean that you love your neighbour like your role model.
That when Jesus says: Matthew 22:39
Matthew 22:39 NIV
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
that we would take Jesus’ example of love. That how he loved others would be the way that we love others.
If we truly want to be apart of the Jesus Christ Fan Club we want to adhear to the Jesus Christ Fan Club Rules:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart
Love others
those are the rules, and so if we love others with the heart of the Lord then we are following these guidelines for the crew.
So as we act to others in this club we must 1 love the lord and 2 love the people in the club.
That is really who I want to focus on today, that we love the other people in this room, and I am talking about every person in this room.
If we want to be a successful club, the club of the year then we would do as the role model of the club says (that being Jesus) and love each other.
I want to give one way to love each other thatI think is valuable for this club and that is so important even when the club does not meet as a whole.
There will be days where you are not at church or at youth or you cannot get in touch with a leader or me. this is where your friends come into the equation.
That we would keep each other accountable in our spiritual development with Jesus. This idea coming from Proverbs 27:17
Proverbs 27:17 NIV
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
So as we take part in this club, that when we leave for the night that we would not leave the connections nor the topic of discussion behind but that we would keep each other accountable.
Because we sharpen each other as we pursue Jesus together. However we must pursue each other together, that is the point of this club.
I want you this week and this month and this year and for the rest of your life to pursue Jesus first, but to love your fellow Christian that you would keep each other accountable to follow Jesus.
When I was a teen I wish my friends would ask me how my devotionals were going,
I wish they would ask what I have been praying about.
I wish they would ask where I saw God in my week.
I wish they would bring questions to discuss about who God is.
I had great friends, don’t get me wrong they loved the Lord with all their heart. I just wish that they would want to love the Lord with all their heart in our friendships.
Maybe my faith relationships wouldn’t have been so bumpy through my highschool years,
maybe I wouldn’t have experienced some of those valleys of doubt that I did when I entered into college.
This is all hypothetical, but even if I experienced all those with a Jesus Fan Club that was 100% open to talk about Jesus on a momments notice, I think I would have conquered those valleys much better.
So I really want to challenge you this week, to contiune to have good Christian friendships, but to also bring God into your group.
When he gets mentioned by someone, to not sweep off the discussion but to jump head first into it.
Also to bring God into the conversations when you need it, not to be hesitant but if you love the Lord let your heart share, becuase what overflows of the heart will be spoken.
So my challenge is bring Jesus into your conversations with your christian friends,
ask them about their faith
ask them about their devo’s
ask them questions about God
care about their faults
care about their god stories
develop a love for the Lord together.
1. What does it mean to you to be apart of the “Jesus Christ Fan Club”?
2. How can you take part in the “Jesus Christ Fan Club” when we meet together?
3. What does accountability with other Christians look like?
4. How can you bring Jesus up with your Christian friends this week?
5. Who do you want to do a godly check in with? (Not accusing check up, one to just catch up about where each other is in devo’s or on the faith walk)
