The scriptures today lay out in striking language the fundamental outline of Christian faith. Just listen, take it in, and respond in your own way.

Inheritance - Ephesians

“In him [Christ] we have obtained an inheritance,
having been predestined according to the purpose of him
who works all things according to the counsel of his will,
so that we who were the first to hope in Christ
might be to the praise of his glory.
In him you also, … were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it,
to the praise of his glory.” (Ephesians 1:11–14, ESV)

Jesus’ Promise - Luke

five sparrows sold for two pennies: Jesus does not promise to save his disciples from suffering and death but to vouch for their loyalty on the final day.1
JBC/Luke 12:6 “6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God.”

Our Response - Psalm

Ps vv 1-5, 12-13
Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings! Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.” (Psalm 33:1–3, ESV)
