The Fear of the Lord

What do you fear? ¿Qué temes?

Let me ask you a question this morning.

What do you fear? What makes you afraid?

Is it losing your job? Is it death? How about sickness?

What keeps you awake at night?

Is it scary monsters, or possibly not having enough money to pay all the bills.

Some of us might take freddy or some other scary thing over not having enough.

How about fear of the future? Are you afraid of what is going to happen around the corner, or over the hill?

Where does fear come from?

Sometimes they come from bad experiences

Sometimes from watching someone be harmed - like in a movie

Wherever we get the fear started, we need to know that fear does not come from God.

The Bible tells us to fear the Lord - does that mean we should be afraid of God?

For this I want us to consider an illustration before we go into scripture.

How many of you have a mother?

How many of you love your mother?

How many of you have a fierce mother that would take on a bear to protect you?

There is no distance a faithful mother is not willing to go for her kids, just don’t get on her bad side. She is your favorite person, or your worst nightmare.

Those who have rejected God should very much be afraid. He still allows them opportunities to get right with Him, but there is a day coming, when all chances are going to be exhausted and many will wish they had listened.

Do you have your Bible this morning? We are about to look at what God’s word says about fearing the Lord.

The Lord is good and blesses those who give Him the highest place - El Señor es bueno y bendice a los que le dan el lugar más alto.

When you fear the Lord, You do not need to fear anything else - Cuando temes al Señor, no necesitas temer nada más.
