Introduction
There is a country song by Aaron Tippin that has as its chorus this lyric:
“He'd say you've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything”
If we as Christians or the church do not know what it is that we believe, then like the song we too will fall for anything. Not enough could be said for the importance of a firm foundation.
This series is going to look at what our core beliefs are as a church.
Our first core belief that we are going to look at is What we believe about the Bible.
Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness,
17 so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

The Bible is God’s word to all men. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error.
“…nobody would know the truth about God, or be able to relate to Him in a personal way, had not God first acted to make Himself known.” J.I. Packer (Concise Theology, 3)
God has so acted, we have available to us the Bible, a collection of 66 books, 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New. These books are our standard for all things.
We are going to look at four aspects of the Bible, that will aid in showing what we believe about the Bible. Those four things are the Bible’s 1) Authority 2) Clarity 3) Necessity and 4) Sufficiency.
#1 We believe that the Bible’s Authority comes from God.
Scripture’s authority is derived from its ultimate author…God.
Since Scripture (The Bible) is the Word of God therefore to ignore or reject what scripture teaches is to ignore or reject God Himself.

ALL Scripture is Inspired (God-Breathed)
20 First of all, you should know this: No prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation,
21 because no prophecy ever came by the will of man; instead, men spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
God inspired the writers of the Bible to pen their words by the influence of the Holy Spirit.
“Thus says the Lord”
22 Then you will say to Pharaoh: This is what Yahweh says: Israel is My firstborn son.
2 Joshua said to all the people, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Long ago your ancestors, including Terah, the father of Abraham and Nahor, lived beyond the Euphrates River and worshiped other gods.
24 Therefore, the Lord God of Hosts says this: “My people who dwell in Zion, do not fear Assyria, though he strikes you with a rod and raises his staff over you as the Egyptians did.
God raised up individuals to speak on His behalf and with Him filling them with His words.
18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. I will put My words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him.
19 I will hold accountable whoever does not listen to My words that he speaks in My name.
20 But the prophet who dares to speak a message in My name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods—that prophet must die.’
21 You may say to yourself, ‘How can we recognize a message the Lord has not spoken?’
22 When a prophet speaks in the Lord’s name, and the message does not come true or is not fulfilled, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.
9 Then the Lord reached out His hand, touched my mouth, and told me: I have now filled your mouth with My words.
In the OT God spoke through His prophets. The OT makes it fairly easy to affirm that it is God’s word because that is its claim. “Thus says the Lord.”
Peter refers to Paul’s writings as scripture setting them on the same level with the OT.
16 He speaks about these things in all his letters in which there are some matters that are hard to understand. The untaught and unstable twist them to their own destruction, as they also do with the rest of the Scriptures.
Paul quotes Deuteronomy and Jesus and refers to them both as scripture.
18 For the Scripture says: Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain, and, the worker is worthy of his wages.
4 “Do not muzzle an ox while it treads out grain.
7 Remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they offer, for the worker is worthy of his wages. Don’t be moving from house to house.
The Holy Spirit helps us read the Bible.
26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit —the Father will send Him in My name—will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.
27 My sheep hear My voice, I know them, and they follow Me.
17 Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth.
6 The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver refined in an earthen furnace, purified seven times.
5 Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.
160 The entirety of Your word is truth, and all Your righteous judgments endure forever.

14 But when I saw that they were deviating from the truth of the gospel, I told Cephas in front of everyone, “If you, who are a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you compel Gentiles to live like Jews?”
15 We who are Jews by birth and not “Gentile sinners”

Necessity - It is impossible to become a Christian, live as a Christian, grow as a Christian apart from reading the Bible or having it read to you.
14 But how can they call on Him they have not believed in? And how can they believe without hearing about Him? And how can they hear without a preacher?
17 So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ.
15 and you know that from childhood you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
4 But He answered, “It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
29 The hidden things belong to the Lord our God, but the revealed things belong to us and our children forever, so that we may follow all the words of this law.
3 For this is what love for God is: to keep His commands. Now His commands are not a burden,

Sufficiency - The Bible contains everything we need to become a Christian, live as a Christian and grow as a Christian.
13 Hold on to the pattern of sound teaching that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
