Talking to Others about you Faith // 1 Peter 3:8-18

95% Christians actually about nine out of ten Christians will never get to share their faith with others or if they do. It feels very uncomfortable to share their faith. So although we have this precious gospel message, as we just saw ran in the video what the gospel does. For us, the gospel changes, Our Lives. Alter the gospel has impacted our lives in ways, that some of us could never do. We know what the gospel. But most of us as believers. We will live our life, we will die, but never share the gospel with anybody. So that's why we continue in our series on PSI plus. That means prayer. Share and invite plus a few more out. Add later today, we're going to talk about sharing your face, talking to others, about your face, So today will be in 1st Peter, chapter 3, verse 8 to 18. And as we look at sharing our faith this morning, there are five things that I want us to remember, five things that we need to keep in mind. Sharing our face starts with living out our faith, sharing our favorite starts with brain. Shearing starts with overcoming our fears. Sharing our faith starts with valuing people, and lastly, sharing our faith starts with a willingness to be obedient and following Jesus example. So, those five things we will see in our texts. This morning, Father is a good for your word. Now, teach you how to talk to others about our faith. So the first one, sharing your face starts with living out your faith. Sharing your face starts with living out your face. You see it has been said, more is cut is. More is caught than is being. So if you are at home, you are raising kids, your kids learn more from what you do as opposed to what you tell them. Any Witness. All of us grew up in a home somewhere. Okay, if you're not the parent now, I think it's some point. You were the child. You learn more from observing from seeing what people do you than actually, what they actually do. See your words needs to match actions. So that's why sharing our faith starts with living out our faith. The more we live out our faith, the more people will be attracted to what we have to share with them because the gospel is supposed to be attractive, people should be attracted to the gospel and a lot of people will never open a Bible and read. The Bible says, we are living Bible. We are living Epistles. The people look at our lives. And they are supposed to see an Open Bible as people look at our lives, they were observing Our Lives. They supposed to see an Open Bible and that's what we do. That's why sharing our faith starts with living out our faith. If you want to share the gospel with people start living the Bible, start living what you know. This is hearing that about perfection. As we know all of us have what have sinned and none of us are perfect but to the best of our abilities, do the best that we can do. We need to act accountable for what we know for what we know we need to act out what we know.

Believe it, we don't really believe it. So, sharing our faith starts with living out our faith in 1st, Peter chapter 3, starting in verse 8. After Peter was was talking giving a message to his audience. As you wrote this letter, he was telling them about the different means of Grace that God has given us. And, and he was telling them previously about how they need to live in their country, you know, how they need to live with in the government, how they need to live with their employer's. A household should be run, how a husband and a wife should live their shared all that information, about how you should live in your community, how you should live in at your workplace? Are you should live At home then now he came to the conclusion. He says, finally, all of you have Unity of mine. Listen to this 5 things. The first thing is unity of mine. Sympathy or compassion brotherly. Love a tender heart and a humble mine. So Peter is telling fellow Believers telling the Christian. Hey, what's your general, attitude needs to be your general attitude needs to be one of unity. Somebody who's creating the vision? You should always have Unity of mine. So really he's saying a as Christians we need to be faking the same thing as Christians. We need to be thinking the same thing have Unity of mine. Sympathy, that means feeling the same thing. See, when you have compassion on somebody is that you feeling their pains. It's your pain in my heart. So God is saying we need to be making the same thing. Went to be feeling the same thing. And what time is it all up is love. Because when they ask Jesus, what is the greatest commandment Jesus says, is to love God with all your heart and then Jesus says to love others, love your neighbor as yourself. And I said, we need to really be living in love. We should not have hatred in our card for nobody. Sink in the Bible. Even says, we need to love our enemies. In Matthew Chapter 5 love. God says, you love your neighbor, you love the people. You like, you like your, you love your family, you love your co-workers and you even love your enemies. As Christians.

Because you need to have a tender heart. That means you need to care about the needs of others and you need to always have a humble mine. What turns of people from the lack of Mobility? As we seek to share the gospel with others? As she would be our general attitude, where we have Unity of mine? We have sympathy compassion, brotherly, love the tender heart and I feel humbled mine and then he went on to say, Do not repay evil for evil or revealing for revealing but on the contrary we need to do what I say it with me. Be like, you know, the big things that you may be thinking about what it says, do not repay evil for evil or somebody was mean to you naturally, your disposition is to be mean back today, but that's what he's talking about when it says, do not repay evil for evil or revealing providing, don't think about the big things. Now, it's all those little things, you know, when a family member does something to you and then you don't talk to them for several days. If it's those little things everybody for buying but on the contrary there's no room for cursing. Does the last thing anybody out for turning down? Anybody says,

Fortuitous. You were what the God is saying. Your only duty is to bless people. You need to be a blessing that why the gospel need to be attractive and people need to be attracted to you that so that people will not have anything to say about you because you living out the gospel about non-christians. They may not follow God or they may say that they don't believe in God, they may not want to live for God, but they know how Christians should behave. Ever ever paid attention to that, you know, exactly how we are supposed to live. And it whenever we got off, They're ready to correct us. Never been corrected by electrician.

My head is down okay, but don't know exactly how you need to behave and you know recently I was wearing a church t-shirt to to the supermarket and was doing some shopping. But you know it was not until I turn around. I realized that I was not being kind. There was a lady mile. Even look at the lady to say hi. I just went over and got my thing and then turn around and go to the other one. Now, all of a sudden, I realized You hold in your church.

Is it if I didn't have a church t-shirt on that day, I would not have even realized that. I just saw the lady, I didn't even greet her because the Bible says, we need to be kind to one another tenderhearted, but I just went on and just go about my business, but my God says, you're not here to be about your business. You need to care for others, and that's why. Now when I'm wearing a church t-shirts am very conscious Without to really live out. The gospel message. And it says do not repay evil for evil but it says we need to blast for that. You may obtain a blessing to God. It is directly tied to how you bless others. Blessing is directly tied to the way that you bless others. So, if you are not a blessing to others, God is saying, I cannot bless you just like that. And after the Lord's Prayer, it says that you cannot be asking God for forgiveness, when you not willing to forgive others and in the wording that is there, this is why God do to you, what? You not willing to do to others. So God is saying to us sharing our faith starts with living our faith, and we need to have a good attitude. We need to have a genuine attitude and the way we really care for others, I understand, he says, for desires to love life and see good day. So if you want to have a good life, got this business, the recipe. If you want to have a good life, God has a practice this veins, bless others. That's is that's when you get actually live. The good life has. Let him keep his tongue from evil and he's lives from speaking the seat. So so everything that you need to watch your words. You need to watch your tongue. You need to watch what you say. No gossip should be coming out of your mouth. No, deceitfulness. You should not. None of those things should be coming from you as a present to manipulate.

You trying to manipulate anybody when lips from speaking the seat and it says, let him turn away from Evil and do what. Let him seek peace and pursue it.

Some people make it very difficult to leave at peace with them. Something to bless them. They come back and get you. But turn up for you. God says you need to always seek to do good. And you need to seek peace and pursue. It took to mean, even when somebody attacked you, when you try to do a good thing. God says, a few still pursue peace with them. And often was thinking about this, this is like, you know, for people with outside people, we come in contact with non-christians, but a lot of times the people we don't have peace with our family members.

Am I the only one from a big family restaurant?

Just for the people that, you know, people that you are in contact, but God says, you need to always seek peace and you always need to speak to do good to people at all time. This is a tough call from Peter. Peter is saying, this is the way that we need to live our life and then figure says, that's the good life when you live like that, you will be blessed. That's guaranteed since for the eyes of the Lord are on, what the righteous, those who are walking with God, those who seek to do, good to those who seek to love, those who have a tender heart. Those who have humility in their heart, the eyes of the Lord are on the right, use his ears are, open to go walking with me. I'm just waiting for you to say something.

that's literally what he saying there is ears are open to their prayer but the face of the Lord is what against those who do evil if you're not living as such you actually, somebody was not seeking peace but instead you speaking the vision, you you you you you you you doing all those things that are contrary to what Peter is teaching us here Peter saying,

That the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. So sharing the gospel of sharing your faith, talking to others, about your faith starts with Wake up, starts with, living out your faith. See the gospel. We need to be attractive. That means we need to show our faith because here's the thing. Before we share our faith, we need to do what. So our face, we need to show our faith.

All right. Look at Matthew 5:13 through 16. If you didn't believe me from Peter and I'll get it from Jesus, Jesus says, he was your purpose in life, that's what you were made for. Okay? You are what we did with me, please. You are the salt of the earth but is salt has lost its face. How shall this be restored? It is no longer good for what, anything except to be thrown and trampled on their people who sang. This is your purpose. Your purpose is to bring God's flavor to people. What does salt do to solve makes things taste better? Salt makes me taste good. Sometimes you eat.

It sure is the same two guys in. This is your purpose in life. This your purpose is to be salt on the earth, like you bringing God's flavored. That means when you go somewhere, you make it better because you work at your workplace. Guess what? Your workplace needs to be better because you were student in that class that needs to be better when somebody has a problem because you around That problem needs to be at alleviated, things needs to get better. That's what you were created. A lot of us have a hard time trying to figure it out and that we wrestling with pulling our hair, trying to figure out. This is it? You are the salt of the earth or wherever you go. You make it better. That is God's purpose for your life and in case you missed it, you missed the salt analogy. God put it another way. Read with me please, it says you are the light of the of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be here and don't do people light a lamp and put it under a basket on us stand in his to shine and it gives lie to all in the house in the same way. Let your light shine before others so that they may see what your good works, your actions not just your words. Your good works and give glory to your father, which is in heaven. So, God is saying, a, your purpose, in life is to be salt, is to be like Salt makes things taste better. Light helps you see clearer?

Address. Alright, second things, second thing, sharing our faith, talking to people about our faith starts with praying. So we did a whole two week about praying for God's business, so it's simply verse 12. It says for the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and he's ears are open to their prayers. Remember the prayer of the righteous person has great power as it is working out? Help me to communicate your message clearly too. Damp and help me Lord God to be able to address the oppressions. This Factory. I'm Manor. God says, when you pray, he will answer to God. Please give me a picture of the thing, but gospel means good news. Everybody needs the gospel. Even people who tell you, they don't want God, they actually won. They just have a warped view of God because of Christians. We've been such a bad job of showing them who God is and what God is like. So they just don't know what they really want. So people need the gospel in which starts with pray. That's why. I last time I ask you to write down five names. People that you would like to reach out. And then all that I asked you last week to do was to pray for those people. So, if you were not here last week, come up with five names, and I'm not even asking you to put people. You don't like, just write them people. You actually, like, right now it's about family members. Good friends who don't know Christ and then just write down their names and then start praying for them to start praying for them, your heart to love them more and to seek to help them in their Journey self with four are starting to die. It's with praying for them. The third thing sharing, the gospel starts with overcoming our fears. Sharing the gospel starts with overcoming our fears. The remember, the statistics nine out of ten of us will never share the gospel with anybody. So a lot of us, the reason why we don't share the gospel is because of our fear. So we need to overcome our fear. We simply go and share the gospel. What are some fears fear of rejection? We don't want to be rejected, fear that how I didn't look at it. Going to look at me now, moving forward. See, we cannot let those things. Keep us from sharing the gospel, for some of us fear of retaliation, you know, from at work or, or whatever it is. See, sharing the gospel starts with overcoming our fears, and we need to overcome our fears. Not letting our fears. Keep us from sharing the gospel. Look at what Peter says. Is there to harm you? If you are

The Bible says, in a in, in Romans, 8:28 all things work together for what?

So, if you share the gospel with somebody, somebody wants to reinstall your guess what?

God will furnace for good. Romans 1:17 says 7. The Gospel is the power of God, flu salvation to those, who believe in the Gods. God, people needs to be save. This is, but even if you should suffer, for righteousness sake, you will be blessed. But to suffer at all, like we want, okay, everything is

Weather. You have to suffer for sharing your faith or not suffer, betta says you share your faith. Peter says, have no fear of them know. I'll be trouble for some experience with bad. Remember my friend Peter? The guy would deny Jesus, how many times 3 times, the guy will always have his foot in his mouth like thinking that he could do much more than he actually could do. Peter here is telling us have no fear of them. No be trouble if it's coming from theater. We need to listen, because Peter had some experience with that. You know, Peter is the guy. If he actually knew how to use a sortie would have been a murderer because he just cut, try to cut the men's ahead, but he actually just cut his ear. Saying, hey, I have overcome this. I was like you about standing up for Christ book. Peter said a, I'm on the other side. Now Peter says have no fear of them, no betrothed crucified upside down. See the same man who was fearful to say anything. What was the dying? Jesus, and he went on and died for that same. Jesus transformation needs to happen in our life where what we believe we actually live it out where we really are transformed by the gospel where we really believe the gospel that even if our life would depend on it. Even though most of us here in America, our life will not depend on it, but some people in some other countries, their life depended on it. We accept Christ. They might lose their life for it, but for most of us, that is not the case. It'll be just a little persecution here and there about rejection of people looking down on us or you still believe this in 2020 to do the things you going to get that extent of your persecution weather for good to those who love God. You might be getting fired from a job in your life because God has a plan and a purpose for your life. And he's playing and purpose for you is good. That's what Jeremiah 29:11 says. I have a plan and a purpose for your life, it is to give you a future and to give you Hope queso Peter says, Don't Fear then that's one of my favorite in the Bible. It says For the Love of Christ controls us compels us because we have concluded this, that one has died for all. Therefore all have died and he died for all that does will live. Might no longer live for themselves, but for him for their sake. Died and was race. That's the problem. A lot of us have we come to Christ, but we still don't want to die to self. We still want to live, like Jose want to live. And you put your name there, you still want to live about me. Me, me me me my way my life know. If you're Christian, you no longer have a life, your life belongs to Christ. Because it was the Gospel message. All of us, have sinned and we all do for punishment. But Jesus Took on that punishment for us, that punishment is because Jesus died for us. We can live a live for yourself with living for Jesus with to conduct penalty of death for us. She sometimes we don't share the gospel. Also. Just fear, just because we just don't know what to say. You're right, we just don't know what to share. But but here's the thing, all of us, have problems. All of us have a need for God. All of us, it doesn't matter how far we've gotten in live, at some point. It comes out and it feels like you feel like your life is meaningless. Once you meet a goal that you have, then after that is, like, now what? Do you think that's the thing in life? You get this degree? You need another degree, you know, you start making this money, you need to make more money, you need to make more money and ask people with making millions of dollars in billions of dollars. I guess what, they still need to make one more dollar. You think in this life you will never be satisfied. That this is a different things, different ways where you talk to people about, you know, you can start a conversation, doesn't have to be like you talking like starting old guy could be just a Justified with life Start talking about your faith. Are you satisfied in life? And then you can share with him. But you know what, I've just had a lot of good things happen in my life, but I'm out sometimes, I always feel like I need more. You know what makes you feel content? Is he having this conversation? What's the point of life? I just come. And I just, and I just, you know, do something. And after that, I just died. What is my purpose in? Life was I created for, what is the significance in my supposed to make sense of life that might be? Why were you start by sharing the gospel? It says the love of Christ controls us. So everything we do. We do it out of love for God, says in verse 16 from now on there for We regard no one according to the flash, even though we once regarded Christ, according to the flesh, regarding him does no longer. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is what new creation the old has passed away behold. The new has come. So you live your life for Christ. So, sharing, the gospel starts with living out our faith, sharing, the gospel starts with prayer. Sharing the gospel starts with overcoming our fears, and then sharing the gospel starts with valuing, people really careful people. You see, don't just go to somebody and just want to share the gospel with, then, why? You don't give a rip about then you don't care about them. You remember the Peter says, you need to be tenderhearted, you need to honestly genuinely care about the person you want to share the gospel with. You need to care in Genesis 1:27. It says all of us were created in God's image. Do you really believe that? And I know for some of us there are some people we don't get these said they were made in God's image. But all of us were created in His image and we need to careful people, we need to start valuing people and adding value to their lives. Don't just come and just, I just want to share the gospel movie really care about people value then show them like, you know, they mean something to you, show them that they have worth you value. People looking for us 15 of Peter chapter 3. First, Peter chapter 3, says in your hearts on their Christ. The lord, as holy always being prepared to make a defense that mean to give an answer to anyone who asks you for the reason for the hope that is in you yet.

With gentleness and respect. So God is saying when we sharing the gospel with people, we need to be gentle. Go yell at them.

You need to do it with gentleness and respect. Careful people as you talk for the middle show interest, and if they're not interested, leave him alone. Can you start a conversation? I remember speaking to a student when I was in campus. Trying to talk to them, getting to do them. You know, what's going on? Hey, how's it going to order the first of all, good? I'll be able to make some friends on campus yet, which is right across from campus. And if you live in that apartment and would love to meet you at love to introduce you to some other people and would love to get to know you. Since you New Year, we would love to get to know you and then really, just make your time. You're more comfortable, is it? You planning seed? You planning see, you just being kind, you being gentle you been very respectful. You genuinely want to learn about the new genuinely, want to get to know them. And look at 4:15 again. What it says there that you do you always want to take a defense to anyone who asked you? What is the Assumption there? Doesn't look so good in that verse. The assumption is that a question? If you living out the gospel, people will ask you questions. And that is your opportunity to share the gospel. You see when somebody look at you and say such a great job at work, I'm so thankful you in this department. That's your chickens right there. When you were compliment says to answer to that, but I want to share one. I just stare at you. No, it's just you know my growing up my parents you know, I always tell me I got to take my work seriously and you know over time actually believe it. Remember I said to what happened? When we, when we tell people something that we tell them, when we don't give him, the answer, we created what? Curiosity now what's the second one? I don't want it to be offensive to some people because it's about my faith. Just what you doing there. You create an interest, is the other place that you just saying, you know, because of my faith in God, you could do that too. But today people are so indifferent to the gospel. That's one good way of doing. It's everything always has two answers. They pay you a compliment about your clothes, man. I really like how you always dress. So do you, send, whatever it is, whatever the share of, you know, thank you, thank you. You know why, you know, you always do, whatever it is ultimately everything that I do is because of what God has done in my life. What do you love to do in life? You know what is the one thing that you really enjoy doing? As people sharing to tell you what they love doing. And then you tell me,

You know the simple things I love to do in life. You know that and then you share one and then but there's one more that I really love to do is sharing my face Is it create curiosity in people and share the gospel. Got those, you do it with gentleness and respect and all of us. We need to be living out of the Gospel so that people can ask those questions. When it says being prepared to make a defense to anyone will ask you that message people. I'm not asking you questions. If you want I'm paying you compliment people that asking about your face, maybe you not showing your face, maybe you not living out your face and it says having a good conscience. So that when you are Splendored. So when people talk bad about you, they will be the one we're saying. Look at it. Dudes will revalue your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. You see people may talk about you all day one but they're not, not her know you telling me about that person. That's what I see. That's not the case that I don't believe, that's the case. When people try to swim to us, it goes nowhere. When people try to mess up your reputation saying

You live it out, you sure the gospel and God says it start by valuing people. You see, when you take an interest in people, people will ask you questions an interest in people we can live a secluded lives. We can live secluded lives. We need to be where people are, so don't just stay in your apartment, or your house, or your office and don't get out. When you are at work, you need to be around people. That's when you get those opportunities to share the gospel, okay? I know we've covid, we all want to stay to ourselves but God we cannot be Salt and Light. If we just stay to ourselves, we got to go with people. Are we have to enter people's world to that bacon?

Questions. If you know them people's lives they cannot ask you question. We cannot do life only with our immediate family or other believers. We need to be around on believers. You really need to be around people who don't believe we see if he falls. He's hanging out with delivers. That's too much salt there. What happened when the food is too salty?

Start doing any more, right? So we need to spread out. Okay, what happened when the light shines too bright? You can't see blind you right? We need to be out, you cannot be with Believers all the time. You need to hang out with some non-Christian friends, okay? Don't let them spoil, you not remember you to self, okay? So this is what brings the flavor we need to create curiosity in people, to make them hungry to know, guys are no more about your faith. And God is Not Looking for spectators, but God is looking for players. Okay, what did you say, it says always be prepared to make a defense to share your faith to give a reason for your face to God, is looking for players, don't be a spectator. That's what God says, go, therefore and do what Make Disciples of all Nations, baptizing them in the name of the father, Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that. I have commanded you all action words, that's what God wants us to do. See, John Maxwell, put it this way. Serving people is the first step in saving. People serving people is the first step in saving people, so we need to learn to serve people. Not shoving the gospel down, their throat serving, people is the first step in saving people. Lastly, the last one, can you move that last one, so, sharing starts with our willingness to be obedient. And following Jesus, example, sharing starts with our willingness to be obedient following Jesus example. So, sharing starts with living out, the gospel, sharing starts with praying, sharing starts with overcoming, our fear sharing starts with Valuing people, and lastly, sharing starts with our willingness to be obedient. And following Christ example, here, in verse 17 and 18, the last two verses says, for it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God's will then for doing evil. For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, that's the thing I love about. God does not ask us to do anything that he is not willing to do himself, see everything that Jesus asked us to do Jesus. Did it for us? Matthew 28:19 to 20 again, we just say go therefore and make disciples. See Jesus never asked us to do anything. He has not done and self. You are too quick. A approaches to sharing the gospel. The first one is just be friendly and be intentional. We talked about this already, so be friendly and the intention intention. Remember, the gospel is attractive, okay? We need to be at We need to be attracting people to the gospel. If we're grouchy all the time, if we not smiling, if we not caring, we're not loving, we not friendly. Why should we expect people to hear what we have to say? So it starts with sharing, so be friendly and intentional. So one way that dr. Timothy Southern University says, you don't being friendly means that you start exploring the first. If you just exploring when you just meet somebody for the first time, just observe them, you know, if you go to their house and look what's on the wall, what kind of pictures they have? What kind of painting that they have? What kind of the approach that do you might live by? And, you know, just observe when you just need them and I just observe, okay? Then you ask a question, you don't ask questions, listen, more than talking listen, more than talkin listen, more than talk and get to know people, genuinely be interested about them, then I stimulate them, you know, it's kind of like the bridge you move like enough from the natural. The the day-to-day thing to bring it to spiritual conversation, bring spiritual things into The conversation. Just like it, just bring spiritual things into the conversation, but that's where it takes all of the conversation. And then you share, you share the message of the gospel and will you share your testimony? That's why your testing when he comes very important? What is your life change? Story? What has God done for you? All of us, whether we grew up in the church, God has changed our life in one way. Or another people need to hear that what has God done for you? Why you telling me something, if you have not experienced it yourself, okay? Why has God done for you? Why does your shins live story? Okay, so be friendly. You were exploring to stimulate and you share and then the second one, that's what Rico. Romans road, Romans road. So pretty much, it's just an approach. Where do I say it with words or not? Most of the time when you hear me sharing the gospel at the end of the sermon, that's what I'm using. I'm using Romans roads, you ready? What is Roman word says Romans 3:10. Eternal life in Christ Jesus life after but it's the quality of life. Now once you come to Christ Christ, change your life, your quality of life. Also changes, you live with different perspective. You not no longer always under stress because the Bible says be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication. Now, you have an outlet. But now it no longer takes hold of me because now I have Jesus on my side. See I'm not anxious about any little thing ever anything anymore cuz everything that I have, I have an outlet Jason and I make my request to God. This is what I'm saying and it is true. God transform your life eternal life is also quality of life in Christ Jesus our lord. So Romans 310-320-3623, then you go to Romans 5:8. God shows his love for us in that while we were still what?
