Sermon Tone Analysis

The idea of love is a pretty big deal both in the world and Bible.

God him self even posses the capacity to love!

It is also something that when misplaced can be bad too…

Can I tell you something?

It is God’s will for your life that you be a person of love!

A person that loves Him

A person that loves those made after him!

The most important thing you could ever do is to love!

It is God’s will that you LOVE

With so many things, people, annoyances, distractions going on in the world let us go to Jesus and HOW,WHY, and WHO we should love.

Matthew 22:34-40 “34 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.

35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and great commandment.

39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

Jesus is in the city of Jerusalem teaching in the temple.

As he speaks, the different groups of the day begin to approach Jesus and ask him questions hoping he “trips up”

Up till verse 34 Jesus has

Put the Sadducees to silence (22:23-33)

Answered their questions on taxes and authority (22:15-22)

Taught parables future of Isreal

After stumping and quieting the Sadducees he is approached by a lawyer and this man asks him “what is the greatest commandment?

“

Jesus then teaches that loving God is the first and greatest and loving your neighbor(fellow human) is the second and like unto the first

He even makes and odd statement that in those two commands all the law and prophets are summed up

In essence we can find the whole law and prophets in what Jesus has said!

The Most important thing we can do is to love God and love our neighbors!

It is even safe to say your soul and life depends on if you do!

Let’s examine this closer?

The truth of love

What is true love?

to love.

Involves a deep level of affection and intimacy.

1 Corinthians 13 gives a wonderful description

Love is: Long suffering(patient), kind, love is humble, it seeks the best for the other person, it can bear anything, it thinks highly of the other person

It is an action or will far more than it is an emotion

Love is what motivated Jesus to die for us!

Romans 5:8 “8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

If you want to see what love is we must look at God him self!

He is Love!

1 John 4:8 “8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”

He demonstrates love!

Romans 5:8 “8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

John 15 13 “13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

John 3:16 “16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

His love is faithful and not dependent on us.

Romans 8:38-39 “38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

We should learn love from God’s example

1 Thess 4:9 “9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.”

We should love God!

We love him because he loves us!

1 John 4:10 “10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

1 John 4:19 “19 We love him, because he first loved us.”

The Law is summed up in this because if we love him we will keep his commands!

John 14:15 “15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.”

Not this world but him!

He must be the object of our love!

1 John 2:15 “15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.

If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

How should we love him?

Jesus says “Heart, soul, mind

EVERYTHING WE HAVE!

We Should love people!

If we love God we will love what he loves

& God loves people

John 3:16 “16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

If we love people we will too keep the law because sin usually involves taking advantage of other people.

Romans 13:9 “9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”

2 Cor 5:14-15 “14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: 15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.”
