Growing up I got a lot of whippings. Mostly from my mother. She did not play games. I like to let people know that out of all of my whippings there was only one that I did not deserve. My sister blame something on me that I did not do. But other then that I earned all of my beat downs. She set clear boundaries and she made it crystal clear what would happen if those boundaries were crossed. Here is the rule here is the consequences here is the benefits if you do not cross those boundaries.
Here is the thing there where times that they did not explain what would happen if their rules were broken. Nothing needed to be explained because my parents were consistent. That is who there were. There were also times where they did not explain why I needed to do what they said.
Because there was an understanding that they wanted what was best for me and always had my best interest in mind. Yet there were still days that I strayed I did what I wanted at the moment. I will say that I was never one to play victim because I knew that the rules were clear and I crossed the line. When I did the things that I was not suppose to do I took myself out of safety. I broke the rule now I have to accept the wrath.
We see this same example from what God did for Eve. Last week we talk about how Eve understood what the Lord has instructed her to do. She told satan what would happen if she did wrong. And she still did the wrong thing. Just like us with are parents. Just like we do with God. All I am saying is that some of those things we did to our parents we often do to God as adults. Even knowing that we will not get away with this. Yet we still do it.
We may do this because we know we serve a forgiving God. Or we do this because we get caught in the moment. The reason does not matter the thing to understand is that it can become a vicious cycle. We listen to satan, we walk away from God, we allow someone to lead us the wrong way. Why because we are addicted to sin. It is who we are since the fall. So if it is an addiction what can we do now?
That brings us to this morning. I want to talk about the some of the after math of what has happened after Eve ate the fruit.
Genesis 3:14–24 (AMP)
And the Lord God said to the serpent, Because you have done this, you are cursed above all [domestic] animals and above every [wild] living thing of the field; upon your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust [and what it contains] all the days of your life.
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her Offspring; He will bruise and tread your head underfoot, and you will lie in wait and bruise His heel.
To the woman He said, I will greatly multiply your grief and your suffering in pregnancy and the pangs of childbearing; with spasms of distress you will bring forth children. Yet your desire and craving will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.
And to Adam He said, Because you have listened and given heed to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it, the ground is under a curse because of you; in sorrow and toil shall you eat [of the fruits] of it all the days of your life.
Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth for you, and you shall eat the plants of the field.
In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you shall return.
The man called his wife’s name Eve [life spring], because she was the mother of all the living.
For Adam also and for his wife the Lord God made long coats (tunics) of skins and clothed them.
And the Lord God said, Behold, the man has become like one of Us [the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit], to know [how to distinguish between] good and evil and blessing and calamity; and now, lest he put forth his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever—
Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the Garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken.
So [God] drove out the man; and He placed at the east of the Garden of Eden the cherubim and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep and guard the way to the tree of life.
Honor to God
Thanks to Aaron
Im not going to break this down. But please read it a few times this week so that you can grow. So the aftermath is punishment. I told you the only boundary and you broke it. So as we try to understand Eve we need to understand what she lost.
Im not going to break this down. But please read it a few times this week so that you can grow. So the aftermath is punishment. I told you the only boundary and you broke it. So as we try to understand Eve we need to understand what she lost.
1. We lost that Eve lost
1. We lost that Eve lost
The trust of her Husband
Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”
Now that is shady. Adam is saying you said it was not good for me to be alone. So you decided to put me asleep and you made this woman and look what she did. Now I know more then I ever wanted to know. He basically says you created her for me and she did us wrong. Ladies can you imagine that. You are with the best man in town she knows she is the best woman around. First sign of danger she is on her own. Because she broke his trust.
When people trust you then that means that they believe that you will do the right things. I would have to believe that she lost the trust of her husband based on what Adam says. He those her under the bus. I would take the blame for Tiffany in a second. i have told Tiffany if she gets in trouble blame me because she would not make it in prison. Tell the story about her car accident.
2) She lost access to the place she was created to be.
2) She lost access to the place she was created to be.
Eve was not only created to be for Adam but she was created to be in Eden. To enjoy the life. Can I tell you that God has created a place for you to be in this life. It wont always feel like Eden but it will be a perfect place for you to not only work for the Lord but thrive for Him.
In this life the place you can be casted out of is the great place that GOd created for you. You can be thrown out of that personnel Eden. We can always come back to God but if you fall enough he may do the same to you that He did to Eve. Put angels with flaming swords not letting you get inside. A great of example is the prodigal son.
The prodigal son live in a great situation. He goes to his father and basically says I wish you were dead give me my money. He turns his back on his father and does what he wants. After falling enough that he is forced to eat from the pigs. He realizes it is time to go home. When we fall we have to be like the son. The Bible says he came to himself. He understood that I do better with God. We have to come to ourselves. Be willing not to get back up but humbly get back in line.
3) She lost the trust/ favor of God.
3) She lost the trust/ favor of God.
Eve lost the favor of God. Notice what happens. One of the punishments was child birth pain. This means that when we don’t choose God we are not under his protection. What we learn from this punishment is that God can make our greatest events painful. I bought a business knowing that it was not what God wanted me to do. But just getting caught in the moment. And it went from being the next step in building an empire to stress and pain.
This is because I lost Gods favor. I walked away from what God had for me and pursued my own hustle. Nothing good happens when we lose God favor. His favor is basically God giving us more then we deserve. Like grace and mercy his favor is another benefit that we cannot earn.
What Eve still had
What Eve still had
Still had opportunity to worship or connect with God. We know this because they still taught there sons to make offerings to the Lord. It can be be believed that both her and Adam felt the need to make offering to the Lord because they had a better understanding of who God was. And they felt an obligation to help their kids build a relationship with there creator.
She took her punishment and kept working. Even after we fall down we have an obligation to get up and keep working. Not just for your own soul but because of people that are watching you and trying to figure out how to do get do you get through this.
When they see that it is God that loves you. It is God that leads you. It is God that is sustaining you.
What can we do when we fall like Eve?
What can we do when we fall like Eve?
A) Believe in His Word
But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us.
This means that God knew we were going to be sinners when He died for us. He understood what He was sighing up for. There were no surprises for Him. He knew that Oscar was going to be a serial sinner. Yet He still died for us, for me, for Oscar. Make scriptures personnel in your life. He said God knew what you would do and still said that we were worth it. Whenever you fall the reason you cannot stay down is because God said that you are worth it. No matter what happens. you are worth it. That means God sees you as valuable. I remember when I was a youth a preacher thank the Lord for loving him when he did not know how to love himself.
B) Ask for forgiveness and forgive ourselves
Romans 3:23 (NKJV)
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
1 John 1:9-10
1 John 1:9-10
Even though we are not faithful or just He forgives us and remains faithful and just
So, he died for us so that we can get can be with Him. So became the sacrifice so that we can be forgiven. So we have to make sure that we are asking God for forgiveness. This is one of the greatest benefits we have in the package. The thing that Eve could not do. We can say Lord hear my prayer and please forgive me.
The says we have all fallen short. That means we all fail. And Jesus becomes our advocate and makes sure we have a way to reach the Father.
Sometimes it is not enough to ask the Lord for forgiveness we have to forgive ourselves. I have to let this go in order to get it right next time. The enemy wants you to feel it because that can make you feel shame. Just like Adam and did. And you will do the same thing. You will try to hide from Him. Because of shame. But when God forgives you have to do the same.
C) Get up and get back to work. Put on the whole Armor of God.
This is a simple as getting dressed for war. You are making sure that nothing gets past your armor. Nothing can get to you. Because are letting the armor of God protect you. Better then any Teflon armor you can ever have.
Conclusion
We have so much in common with Eve. But the difference is that we have serve a God that sent his son to this earth to die for our sins. We serve a Lord that came bled and died for us. Without complaint or hesitation. So we are not casted out. We are advocated for.
