Apart from the Law:
Apart from the Law:
21 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets,
Independently of it
Not as s subordinate system coming out of the law, but as an alternative for the Law
22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference;
Righteousness- the quality or characteristic of upright behavior
What is your personal definition of someone who walks uprightly
Maybe you have an example of someone you’ve known in the past
Under the old system there was heavy and impossible obligation that was to be attained for Righteousness
Have you ever made a promise or said something you knowingly couldn’t keep?
We now are partakers of the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus
Literally sounds like blasphemy
it is conditional however on one thing
It goes through Jesus
We attach ourselves to a Divine Person
Not a priest, not a saint, not anything but the blood of Jesus
Human pride want to say we can do it on our own
Do it our own way
What is something you thought you could figure out on your own that ended up backfiring?
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
He’s explaining to everyone that the jew has no real advantage over the Gentile
He offers this invitation to both on the same terms
We all start in the same place when it comes to God sinners who need a savior
When did you realize you needed a savior finally?
24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
Both morally and physically a certain transfiguration takes place in the Christian
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
We still carry the same physical attributes as we did before
Our spirit is reborn
3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Some people want to hold onto their old identity
Or how they viewed or identified themselves
What do you identify as?
25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed,
Propitiation- Hilasterion
serves as an instrument for regaining the goodwill of a diety; expiation, atonement
blood for a sin offering which was sprinkled on the mercy seat
Jesus became our last and final sacrifice
Going back to the passover in the land of Egypt
Out of bondage of Egypt and a temporary covering
We are once and for all justified through Jesus’ blood
27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith.
We have to keep a humble perspective
What keeps your perspective aligned correctly?
28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law. 29 Or is He the God of the Jews only? Is He not also the God of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also, 30 since there is one God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith. 31 Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law.
We are justified through faith
How do you keep faith?
How do we keep a childlike faith?
