The fathers in my life

Here are some attributes of these fatherly figures that I use to father my children and to speak life into others.

I seek to be apart of there lives as much as possible

I try to be a tune their needs

When my children ask for help I strive to exceed expectations

When my children need comfort and instruction I am there for them.

I love it when the seek my help

I am always quick to forgive them.

Two cars wrecked at once

I sing their praises, I always let them know how proud I am of them

I love my children with all my hearts affection

Everything I have is theirs

I will freely sacrifice for them to have a better life.

This is something fathers do…

Do I always get it right?

No

But I work hard to be a great father

Transition Statement

Now I know my story and your story may be different.

You may relate fully to my story.

Or you may have had a completely different experience with your father.

The fact is though we all have a father

Whether you knew your father or not, half of his DNA is in yours

You may even look like your father a little

You may not have known your father.

But we all have father figures in our lives

Maybe you have a good father figures in your life

Maybe as I was talking about the fathers and father figures in my life you were thinking about the fathers and father figures in your life

I understand that not everyone may have the same father and father figures in their life that I have.

I know that fathers day can be a painful day for some because there is tension in the relationship with their father.

There are also children that want a relationship with their father but there is history from the past that may prevent it.

I also understand that some fathers have tension with their children and today may not be a day of celebration for them because they are estranged from their children.

Regardless of the relationship you have with your father.

Today is the day we set aside to honor fathers

I would also say that today we honor every man because they have the ability to:

Either be the biological father of a child

Adopt a child

Or be a father figure in another person's life

Men whether a father biologically to children or not also have an obligation to speak life into others

Especially Christian man

And let me say this “It can be tough being a father” (Fathers can I get an Amen?)

Either father to your own children

Or a father figure in your daily faith walk

It can also be tough living with memories of a bad father or an absent father

Everyday wishing it could have been different

But let me tell you this “it doesn't have to be that way”

You see we also have a father in heaven that is always there for us.

Thankfully whether you had a great earthly father or a bad earthly father you have an awesome heavenly father

Let me tell you a little about HIm

Get out your Bibles we will look at a few different scriptures about our heavenly father today

God

Remember those fatherly attributes I spoke of earlier.

Attributes I learned from other men in my life

Many of them learned these attributes from the Bible and God himself,

Our heavenly Father

Let’s take a look at a few of them.

Our heavenly Father seeks us

Genesis 3:8-9 “Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?””

This is one of the saddest things in the Bible

Our heavenly father knows what we need

Matthew 6:8 “...your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”

Our heavenly father supplies our needs

Matthew 7:7-11

7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

Our heavenly father comforts us

Psalm 34:18 “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Our father in heaven forgives us

Psalm 130:1-4

“Out of the depths I cry to you, LORD; 2 Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. 3 If you, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? 4 But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.”

Our heavenly father sings over

Zephaniah 3:15-17

“The LORD has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your enemy. The LORD, the King of Israel, is with you; never again will you fear any harm. 16 On that day they will say to Jerusalem, “Do not fear, Zion; do not let your hands hang limp.17 The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”

Our father in heaven loves us

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

This is just a short sample of the love our heavenly father has for us and His Fatherly attributes

Who Wouldn't want an earthly father with these kind attributes?

What father wouldn’t want to be a father with these attributes?

A father that seeks out His children

A father knows what they need

Doesn't make them even ask

A father that supplies what his children need

A father that comforts his children when they need comforting

A father who sings praises over his children

One of the greatest praises a father can sing to his child is I'm proud of you

A father that loves his children so much that he sacrifices for them

His time talent and treasure

So maybe you have men in your life that exhibit these attributes

My hope and prayer is that you do

The Goal of every man should BE TO EMULATE THE LOVE OF OUR HEAVENLY FATHER

To his children and those around him

Men and fathers should speak life into others

Maybe you have never experienced any of these attributes from your father or father figures around you

If this is the case I’m sorry and it makes me sad

But I want to assure you that this kind of fatherhood, this kind of godley love is available to you

I said earlier that everyone has a father

Good, Bad or Ugly

But I will tell you now that everyone has a father in heaven waiting for them

Seeking them

Maybe even calling out to you

“where are you”

when you are hiding from him.

Are you hiding from God today?

Transition Statement

We as God’s people are going to promote and teach God’s love and fatherly attributes as best we can.

Our goal is for the entire world to know and understand that no matter what kind of earthly father someone experienced

There is a Father in heaven that none can match

A father in heaven that

Seeks you

Knows what you need

Supplies your needs

Comforts you

Forgives you

Sings praises over you

Love you beyond measure

So today if you are hiding from your heavenly father let Him find you.

Trust me He is seeking you and wants to father you.

Let me tell you a little more about our awesome Father and King

Back at Christmas time I describe our father in heaven like this:

Our Father in Heaven is a King

A King like no other

He’s the King of the Jews

A King that Kings bow down to

He is the King of Glory

He is the King of righteousness

He is the King of the ages

He is the King of Heaven

He’s the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords

He’s a King that heals the sick

He’s the King that opens blind eyes

He’s the King the heals deaf ears

He’s Kings give strength to the weak

He King sets captives free

He’s a Sovereign King

No means of measure can define His limitless love.

He’s enduringly strong and entirely sincere

He’s eternally Steadfast

He’s full of Grace, Power and Mercy

He’s the greatest phenomenon that has ever crossed the horizon of this world

He’s a King that can give life

Since then that “Our Father in heaven is a King”

May we live like the princes and princesses that we are.

May we strive to love like God as best as we can

Fathers, are you with me?

Men, are you with me?

Mothers and ladies, you with me?

Church are you with me?

We can do this and change the world.
