Being a successful witness for Jesus
Intro:
Acts 1:8 (NKJV)
8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Witnesses: Same GW for martyr.
This verse applies to all Christians.
Someone who provides a testimony.
Jerusalem.
That had happened.
Samaria: That had happened.
Now the gospel would move on to other places.
We are going to look an awesome story of Phillip being a witness.
How he was obedient.
How he shared the gospel.
How we need to do the same.
Acts 8:26 (NKJV)
26 Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.”
This is desert.
Be obedient:
We are not told how the angel of the Lord spoke to Phillip.
But we are told what he tells him.
Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.”
This is desert.
Gaza.
The Gaza strip.
60 miles SW of Jerusalem
Something great was going on the Samaria.
Elab
And God (Through the angel of the Lord) leads Phillip to Gaza to witness to one man.
One on one witnessing.
Reveal services.
Mass evangelism.
Shoe box ministry mass evangelism.
These are important.
But one on one evangelism is the way that you are going to reach people with the gospel of Jesus.
Jesus preached to 1000’s Elab
But he took the time to speak to the Samaritan at the well.
He started a conversation with her.
God wants us to talk to people about Jesus.
To be a witness.
Being a witness to more than just living like a Christian around people.
Most people want.
Most never have.
How can I?
Acts 1:8 (NKJV)
8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Look at who Phillip is to witness to.
Acts 8:27 (NKJV)
27 So he arose and went.
And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship,
“So he arose and went”
He didn’t run like Jonah did.
He didn’t.
He didn’t try to reason with him.
He didn’t argue with him.
He didn’t even ask him why.
“He arose and went”
If we are going to be a successful witness for Jesus we have to be obedient to the leading of the spirit.
Ealb
Phillip was obedient.
When God call you to GO.
He prepared Phillip, but He also prepared the eunuch.
He will prepare you to share.
He will prepare someone to hear.
But you must be willing to GO.
And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship,
Ethiopian: Gentile.
Eunuch: Elab
“of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians,”
Candace was title, like Parroh
He was a man of “Great authority” Royal official
He had come to Jerusalem to worship.
He was not a Jew, but he still went to Jerusalem to worship.
Elab what may have been.
He came to worship, but he didn’t really know God.
He was a man that was searching.
A lot of people searching.
People who are hurting, are searching.
People who have anger issues are searching.
Many religious people who don’t have Jesus are searching.
Acts 8:28–29 (NKJV)
28 was returning.
And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet.
29 Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.”
u7u7u67
Maybe Phillip was standing by the road waiting.
And went the Eunuch passes by, the “Spirit” says go.
Chariot: Ealb
Reading from the book of Isaiah.
Elab
In those days they read out loud.
VS 29 and Elab
Acts 8:30 (NKJV)
30 So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?”
I love this.
Phillip run up to the Eunuch.
Phillip was excited to share Jesus.
You need to be excited about sharing Jesus.
Elab how you can’t be.......
You may need to do some praying and ask God to give you some excitement about sharing Jesus.
