Numbers 13:1–2 ESV
The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the people of Israel. From each tribe of their fathers you shall send a man, every one a chief among them.”
Genesis 12:7 ESV
Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built there an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him.
Numbers 13:17–20 ESV
Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan and said to them, “Go up into the Negeb and go up into the hill country, and see what the land is, and whether the people who dwell in it are strong or weak, whether they are few or many, and whether the land that they dwell in is good or bad, and whether the cities that they dwell in are camps or strongholds, and whether the land is rich or poor, and whether there are trees in it or not. Be of good courage and bring some of the fruit of the land.” Now the time was the season of the first ripe grapes.

Unbelief

Unbelief affects our faith.

Our own understanding is based upon what our flesh tells us through carnal, worldly understanding and life experiences

Unbelief is an unwillingness to trust God.

Exodus 3:8 (ESV)
and I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey,...
Numbers 13:27 ESV
And they told him, “We came to the land to which you sent us. It flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.

However

Numbers 13:28 ESV
However, the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. And besides, we saw the descendants of Anak there.

Unbelief overlooks the promises and power of God, magnifies every danger and difficulty, and fills the heart with discouragement.

Numbers 13:30 ESV
But Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, “Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.”

Radical Faith requires a different spirit.

Numbers 14:24 (ESV)
But my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit and has followed me fully, I will bring into the land into which he went, and his descendants shall possess it.
Numbers 14:8 ESV
If the Lord delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land that flows with milk and honey.
Numbers 14:9 ESV
Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their protection is removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.”
Numbers 14:9 (ESV)
Only do not rebel against the Lord.
Numbers 14:21–24 ESV
But truly, as I live, and as all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord, none of the men who have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have put me to the test these ten times and have not obeyed my voice, shall see the land that I swore to give to their fathers. And none of those who despised me shall see it. But my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit and has followed me fully, I will bring into the land into which he went, and his descendants shall possess it.
Hebrews 3:14–19 (ESV)
For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”
For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses? And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.

Radical Faith requires Perseverance in belief and in action.

Radical Faith is not a good work that saves us but the means by which we hold on to the promises of God and remain in the relationship he has made possible for us through his Son.

Radical Faith is a person who holds or follows strong convictions or extreme principles.

Don’t disqualify yourself

Where were the Israelites when they rebel towards God?

Matthew 21:20–22 ESV
When the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither at once?” And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

3 LESSONS Of HAVING RADICAL FAITH

Faith lays hold of God’s power.

You must believe and not doubt.

James 1:6–7 ESV
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;

Fruit is the evidence of faith.

James 2:18 ESV
But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
