Romans 16:1-2
Romans 16:1-2
I remember I was out with some friends for a birthday Party. And there was some other christians there that seemed cool. And we started speaking about church . and these guys said they where in a church home and I said cool. Then me being a young Bible college students, I gave him all the verses on why there should be a Pastor and authority in the church. Then my friend that I was with ask “was his father around growing up?”
He said no, you have problem with authority.
Allot of us have issues with authority.
Because you have issues with authority its difficult for you to serve.
Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.
What is mans perception about you ?
This word “servant” derives from the word rower. It speaks about a under rower.
This was a person on the lower deck of a ship and rowing the ship. It was considered an inferior position.
These underrowers sometimes where slaves. But we arent slaves before God. We choose to be a underrower.
I should be perceived as a servant of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.
That means the mysteries of the gospel has been revealed to me and I live according to the crucified life.
Romans 16:1–2 (NKJV)
I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is a servant of the church in Cenchrea, that you may receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and assist her in whatever business she has need of you; for indeed she has been a helper of many and of myself also.
Cenchrea - Sentra - Paul shaved his head there before sailing for syria. Acts 18:18
Phoebes name means “bright or radiant”
Phoebe was the probable carrier of this letter to the Roman church.
She was responsible for delivery of this letter.
This was a great honor and responsibility to deliver this letter to the Romans church.
Pauls Romans letter is more valuable then the law of Moses.
If I was on a stranded island and only could have one book it would be this one.
Paul commends Phoebe that means he approves of her. He recommends that she be accepted.
Paul called Phoebe “a servant of the church” Not a servant of Christ. Which leads us to believe that she held some kind of office. Of a deacon.
If you read the KJV , and Revised version you see the word servant translated deacon when it applies to men and servant when it applies to women.
Sometimes we can over correct the word of God. Eve overcorrected what God has said. Which them over complicated it which made it harded to live out.
Assist her with every need.
as servants others benefit from our calling.
Tony Evans said it this way.
Appliances don’t serve themselves. Toasters don’t eat there toast. Refrigerators don’t cool the food that they are going to eat. stoves don’t eat they food they are going to cook. Mircowaves dont digest the food it radiants . Can openers don’t eat what is in the can they open. Appliances are there to serve somebody else. We benefit from their calling. God has assigned you a divine purpose and your fullfillment of that purpose should result in the benfit of others.
The office of a “first lady” and the office of a co-pastor is not biblical.
You rarely if ever here anything about the apostles wives in the Bible.
The only way we knew Peter was married is because Jesus healed his mother in law.
Luke 22:27 “For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves.”
Matt 20:28 “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.””
