Intro: The most expensive wedding officially recorded in the record books cost $55 million. It took place in 2004. The bride was an Indian Steel tycoon’s daughter. They were married in Versailles, France. Their guests were brought over from Indian in 12 leer jets and were accommodated in 5-star hotels. Just to bring the guests to France and give them room and board cost over $2 million.
And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
V. 14 - The issue of being called verses being chosen
The called can reject the invitation for salvation (vs. 3-7)
The called can reject the invitation for salvation (vs. 3-7)
Notice, the public and personal invitations. (vs. 3-4)
However, the invitation is unwanted and considered trivial.
At the invitation of the King, these people would rather go to work.
At the invitation of the King, these people abused His servants.
Rejection of the invitation results in judgment!
Many are called, but few are chosen! Rejection to God’s invitation does not occur solely in the moment, but it is a life choice.
The called can be unprepared for the invitation to salvation (vs. 8-13)
The called can be unprepared for the invitation to salvation (vs. 8-13)
In this second section, the King has graciously filled the Son’s wedding with strangers and vagabonds. (vs. 8-10)
At this point in the story, the called have responded to the invitation and have been given wedding garments.
These garments marked one as an invited guest and were furnished by the King.
Rev. 19:8 “And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.”
Eph. 2:10 “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
2 Tim. 3:17 “That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”
God did not invite you into His salvation, so you could sit on a church pew!
In fact, I dare say if you do not see any place in your life where God is using you to further His kingdom, then you ought to consider yourself lost in your sins this morning!
The King notices the one who does not have the appropriate apparel. Salvation is not merely the accepting of an invitation. It is a change in life!
Eph. 4:22-24 “That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”
Col. 3:9-10 “Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:”
Many are called, but few are chosen! The unpreparedness of your life is manifest or made known through the priorities of your activity!
