LOT’S ESCAPE
Genesis 19:16-18
Lot’s life in Sodom
Lot was a backslider of Abraham’s camp (Gen.13:5-13)
It was the prosperity/poverty are main causes of the people that backslide Today’s youth group attenders are tomorrow’s unchurched On occasion Abraham would rescue Lot from trouble but never from Sodom (Gen.14:1-17) The root of Lot’s slowing ness toward God was that his roots were deep in Sodom God gets Lot out of the Sodom
Because of the covenant with Abraham the escape from Sodom was possible (verse 29)
David’s Covenant with Jonathan – Mephibosheth benefits from it (2Sam.21) God inspects the sacrifice and the sacrifice inspects us It’s was God’s mercy and not Lot’s willingness that brought Lot out of Sodom (verse 16)
Lot’s Directions
Escape for your life
Life is a race not a bus stop; we ought to be constantly running from something into something Lay aside every sin, and run the race and look at Jesus (Heb.12:1-2) Do not look behind you
Dwelling on the past by thinking, meditating and looking back to it Dwelling on past successes and failures (our effort not God’s work) Do not stay in the plain or valley
Go through dryness but don’t stay there – dwelling place of demons (Mt.12:43) Come out of lukewarmness or else you are in danger of being spit out (Rev.3:16) “Though I walk through the valley” (Ps.23) ~ comfort and no pressure We are responsible to God for the gap of where we are and where we could have been Escape to the mountains
You are running from Sodom into the mountains Ascending hills – the dwelling place of God (Ps.24:3) (Abraham; Moses; Elijah; and Jesus) The mountain is very far from Sodom while town is very near to the Sodom (verse 20)
Lot Got Destroyed
Inability to follow the directions will get Lot into destruction Lot failed to follow the letter “d” Lot became a fearful man (Gen.19:30) Lot’s easy path resulted in his descendants practicing carnality and human sacrifices and being eventually destroyed (Gen.19:37-38)
