The Reason for the Season
The greatest event ever
Man stepping his foot on the moon
God stepping his foot on the earth
Jesus being born within the heart
Keeping Christ in Christmas
Christmas – invented in 4th century by Pope Julius I in opposition to the celebration of birth of sun
Jesus is responsible for Christmas – “whoever is responsible for all of this should be arrested and die”
The reason for Christmas - “we don’t have time for all of that, can’t you see what mommy is getting ready for”
Why was Christ born?
If He wouldn’t have been born: 63% believe there would be less charity; 61% less kindness; 59% less personal happiness; 58% less tolerance; 47% more war
Not to improve our life, add holiday to our busy calendars, add a religion to millions of them, nothing else to do
If our need would have been information – educator, technology – scientist, money – economist, pleasure – entertainer, salvation – Savior
No Room For Creator (Luke 2:7)
Born in a manger
Place chosen for Christ’s birth Place unworthy of divine royalty Place from which God revealed Messiah Place which cannot draw attention to itself Christ wasn’t born in a rich house because it wasn’t available Will you make room for Christ in Christmas?
Kicked Out From His Own (Mt.2:1-3, 16)
Troubled by an infant
Generation offended by Christianity Baby that costs the throne Message & Messenger that trouble our society Sought to destroy an infant but couldn’t
Destroying the wrong thing Killing your greatest ally, not your worst enemy Got what he gave (Gal.6:7)
Deceived wise man & killed babies Herod pushed Jesus from his kingdom Christ will do so with him God wanted sons – gave Son What you do to others will be done to you (Mt.7:12)
Unwrapped Gift (Mt.1:21; John 1:11-12; Rom.6:23)
Pharisees had a prophecy, Herod had a problem while wise man had a Savior Christmas gifts originated with wise man but to be more accurate with God giving His Son God’s Christmas present Rejected by some “I don’t need it I have everything” Paid by others “I don’t have enough money” Questioned by few “How do I receive it?”
