Purpose of Discipleship
Fruitfulness
Fruitfulness brings glory to God and is the mark of true disciple.
Difference between abiding and being in Jesus.
~ being in Jesus (fruitless; not continuous)
He takes away, whoever doesn’t abide in Him He takes away (John 15:6)
Fruitful yet not known by Jesus. (Matthew 7:23)
Practice lawlessness (Mathew 7:23)
You are known (intimacy) by Jesus as much as He is known by you. (Galatians 4:9)
Have a form of godliness (branch looks like the vine) but denying its power (reason for unfruitfulness). (2 Timothy 3:5)
The parable of the wise and foolish virgins (Matthew 25:1-13) (all of them are virgins)
FRUIT is something that cannot be gained unless the branch will abide on the vine. Branch cannot produce it on it’s own. Fruit is not an outcome of branches work, but of the work of the vine. True fruit brings glory to God, not to the branch. Fruit belongs to the Vinedresser.
~ Fruit is Christlikeness.
~ Power to heal, cast unclean spirits, preach, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, give what is received, save (takes conviction of sin, which only Holy Spirit can bring). (Matthew 10:1, 8)
~ Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23)
Fruitfulness is the result of CONTINOUS ABIDANCE of the branch in the Vine.
Vine has the power to produce fruit Vine needs the branch and branch needs the vine. Disciple is a follower of person. Jesus choose disciples to be with Him.
Mark 3:14 “Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach.”
Matthew 10:1 “And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him…”
John 15:27 “And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.”
Psalm 1:3 “...planted (continues to abide) by the channels of water that brings forth it’s fruit in its season...”
Mark 1:17 “...Follow Me and I will make you become fishers of men.” ~ make you; ~ become (process)
~ principle of abide and then fruitfulness is observed.
We were created by Him for Him. (Colossians 1:16) Fellowship with the Father (fellowship – communion – intimacy)
1 John 1:3 “...and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.”
1 John 1:6 “If we say we have fellowship with Him...”
1 Corinthians 1:9 “God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
John 17:21 “...that they also may be one in Us...”
Philippians 2:1 “...fellowship of the Spirit...”
2 Corinthians 13:14 “...and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.”
John 14:16 “...He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.”
Enoch walked with God; Noah walked with God; Abraham been with God; God was with Joshua; Gideon the Lord is with you; Moses spoke with God as man with man.
Fruitfulness is the result of the CONTINOUS ABIDANCE of the Vine in the branch.
The Word is the pruning knife. (Hebrews 4:12) “My words abide in you...” (John 15:7) Abide in My Word – is qualification for discipleship (John 8:31) Unfruitful – cares of this life choke the “Word” (Matthew 13:22)
