God’s Chair
Mercy is “checed” – to get inside someone’s skin, or to get into someone’s shoes
God loves everyone the same and everyone is the same but not everyone has the same
Mercy is God’s chair (Ex.25:17-22)
OT is the shadow of NT; many things you can know about the person from its shadow
Jesus and Joseph – “savior”; rejected; falsely accused; sold for a price of a slave; gentile bride; right hand of the king
Ark of Covenant had the law, the book of the law, the manna, and the budded rod of Aaron
Mercy Seat – golden lid or covering over the ark of covenant
Mercy seat was sprinkled by blood once a year by the high priest
God didn’t live in the box
Your box fits you not God (Sarah, Israel, and Martha)
Mercy is over the law
Mercy triumphs over judgment (James 2:13)
I desire mercy not sacrifice (Mt.9:13)
Neglecter important matters of the law: mercy, justice, and faith (Mt.23:23)
God sits on mercy not on the law
God would appear from mercy seat (Lev.16:2)
God spoke from mercy seat (Ex.25:22)
God dwelled in mercy seat (Ps.80:1)
Mercy is over all God’s works (Ps.145:9)
God doesn’t dwell on your past but on mercy, so should you
Blood is the reason why God can sit on mercy not on the law
Once mercy is removed, the law does its work of judgment (1Sam.6:19-20)
God will not sit on your works but on His mercy in your life
Mercy was removed from Saul – he died (2Sam.7:15)
Mercy fills the whole earth (Ps.119:64)
Because of mercy we are not destroyed
Mercy is God’s SSI
God’s house has many departments (justice, wisdom, and reward)
Disqualification for mercy
Good, holy, pure past, obedient people are not allowed into this department
Healthy people are not eligible for SSI
Qualification for mercy
Criminals, murderers, thieves, liars, addicts, alcoholics, and sinners are only qualified for this department
Disability is the only qualification for SSI
It wouldn’t have been mercy if he would have to deserve it
History proves that mercy always pays more
Ten lepers visited mercy department while centurion visited righteousness department (Luke 17:11; Mt.8:5-13)
Pharisee went to holiness department while tax collector to the mercy office (Luke 18:9-14)
Older son was in reward room while prodigal went to mercy agency (Luke 15:11-32)
God’s mercy is GREAT (Num.14:18), RICH (Eph.2:4), as HIGH AS HEAVEN (Ps.36:5), EVERLASTING (1Chr.16:34), and RENEWS EVERY MORNING (Lam.3:23)
