The Value of the Soul
Matthew 22:37-39
Love your neighbor
You have to care about somebody’s eternal condition as you would for yours
The only reason why your friends don’t care about you is because they don’t care about themselves
I am commanded to care for you because you don’t care about yourself
God cares more about you then you care about yourself
Love yourself
Love is not selfish but it’s a concern for something you value
To love you is not to like your appearance or performance
Your body is the car – you the driver; your body is the house – you the owner
There is difference between loving you and loving your body
If your body is you then your death is your end
To love yourself is to value your soul; to value your soul is to care for your soul
Life in sin is the biggest sign that you don’t treasure you
If you don’t care about you then wouldn’t care about relationship with God or your eternal destination
Hell is a place of burning for the soul not the body
To love God is to value your soul and to love sin is to hate your soul
If eyes are priceless to you why wouldn’t you be valuable to you?
“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?
Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”
Matthew 16:26
Soul is priceless
We protect whales but kill babies (Matthew 10:31)
More valuable then life (car is never of more value then a driver)
More valuable then body (Matthew 10:28)
More valuable then possessions (Job 2:10 – didn’t heed of the voice of foolish wife)
More valuable then earthly relationships (Timothy & Maura – martyrs for Christ)
More valuable then world (on scales soul is heavier then the whole world)
The price of the soul proves its worth
We are more concerned with fashion, popularity, hobby then real us
Soul is eternal
Everything but the soul will be destroyed
If our life would end at our funeral then Jesus would die for animals as well
Eternity doesn’t have U-turns
Covering of the soul
Cow’s skin makes nice leather shoes, and tiger’s fur makes warm coats
Many animals are not killed for meat but because of skin
Fig leaves are not good enough (Genesis 3:7-10)
It’s much easier to please perfectionist mom then to try to please holy God
For Adam to be covered animal had to be stripped off of skin (Genesis 3:21)
No one can be more righteousness then Jesus
Don’t hide from God but run to Him & He will put His Son’s coat on you (2 Corinthians 5:21)
