Judging others
you are chosen and changed! 1 Samuel 22:1-2 David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it, they went down thither to him. And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men. 1 Corinthians 1:26-29 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. Early in his life David was forced to flee from his king and father-in-law, Saul -- to flee for his life. During this long season of exile and hiding David began to find himself surrounded by loyal friends who joined themselves to him. But these were friends of an unusual kind: they were men who had all been unhappy, distressed, helpless, or in debt -- by and large, the outcasts of the world. But an amazing thing happened to these formerly hapless human beings when they joined with David; they were empowered and became his "mighty men." When David finally became King of Israel, these men were ennobled and raised to be princes and officers in his Kingdom. As it was with David, so it is with Yeshua (Jesus). Yeshua came to save sinners, the wretched outcasts of this world, discontented, indebted, distressed and helpless ... whom He clothes with His righteousness and fills with His Spirit, ennobles and transforms into "mighty men", who will rule and reign with Him in His kingdom! Robert, we have gathered ourselves to Yeshua, the Messiah, the son of David, and He has chosen us as His friends and fellow laborers in His Kingdom, never again to be outcasts, but rather embraced in His love, part of His enormous family, and delegated and empowered to serve with Him in His Kingdom. Let's be encouraged remembering where we came from AND where we are going! Your family in the Lord with much agape love, George, Baht Rivka, & Obadiah Gainesville, Florida
Point of Doctrine
1. Your pursuit is the spiritual life which is your relationship with the Lord.
2. Not worldly treasures
3. Your concern is the spiritual life which is your relationship with the Lord
4. The Lord knows and will provide for your needs.
Your wants and your needs are often the distraction to your walk with the Lord. your desire for things and your worry for your logistics in life can take a believer away from fulfilling God’s plan and purpose for His and her life.
Matthew 6:34 (NASB95) — 34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Martha was a woman who worried about the details of life.
In Luke she was more concerned with going about ensuring and the work was done to entertain her guests, complained to Jesus that Mary was not helping when the Lord replied
Luke 10:41–42 (NASB95) — 41 But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; 42 but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
Oh, Martha knew doctrine. So much so that she quoted it back to Jesus. Martha was always their more concerned with he worldly than she was with the substance of the word of the Lord.
But the end of the Christian’s life as one draws to the finish life the objective of ones life will be become very clear. Many will realize in the twilight of their lives that life is more than food and clothing and the pretty things that one desires to have, and find all the time which they labored for anything and everything outside of their spiritual was but vanity which consumed the time which could have been invested in their relationship with the Lord.
Now we move into Chapter 7. Are topic continues to be the sermon on the mount
Matthew 7:1–6 (NASB95) — 1 “Do not judge so that you will not be judged. 2 “For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. 3 “Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 “Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye? 5 “You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye. 6 “Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.
As with the rest of the sermon on the mount Jesus is describing how to live as members of the kingdom of heaven. He begins this section by explaining Judgmental attitude. (vs 7:1-5)
People can be another distraction and stumbling blocks to the spiritual life. One that is used by Satan to be stumbling blocks for the advancing believer. Stumbling blocks in such away as when their way does not follow same path of righteousness, there will be the temptation to act as God, to sit in God’s seat to evaluate and to cast dispersions on another creating greater descensions within the body of Christ.
Jesus also emphasis God’s goodness (vs 7-11)
And then instructs His followers to replicate that goodness as the interact with other (v 12)
This really boils down to the two greatest distractors to the spiritual life.
People and circumstances.
Having dealt with circumstances of life, now the words of the Lord deals with people.
Matthew 7:1–2 (NASB95) — 1 “Do not judge so that you will not be judged. 2 “For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you.
56.30 κρίνωf; κρίσιςe, εως f; κρίμαd, τος n: to judge a person to be guilty and liable to punishment—‘to judge as guilty, to condemn, condemnation
Judgment is related to a measuring out. When it comes to justice there is a scale for God, his scales are perfectly balanced while the man’s heart is deceitfully wicked and skewed so will his scales be off when he seeks for a righteous measure.
The great example of this it the stumbling blocks that was set before Job when his three companions began to make wrong assertions about Job when He was being tested by Satan.
When you read Job, you will find a lot of truth in the words of Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar. But the truth was that it was in wrong context and to their good pleasure in a sense that they could elevate themselves over the righteousness of Job to exalt themselves, thinking Job was suffering for some sin and evil doing.
This is what Judgment means, to elevate one’s own righteousness over another. Placing one’s own standard above another and sitting in the seat of God casting condemnation. this is not done to help another to find one’s way back out of the darkness but for the plain reason to exalt oneself even taking pleasure that oneself is more righteous than another.
In the case of Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar they made wrong application, it was they who were in the darkness in need of repentance, and it was they who rather than helping their friend through this difficult time with prayer and encouragement sat as judges and became stumbling blocks.
Remember that Job in the beginning was being allowed to be tested by Satan. Job did not know the reason for his suffering nor did his three friends know. But instead of acting as Judges and executions against Job, the three could have assisted the lord in the comfort and encourage of their friend that Job would successful in glorifying the name of the Lord in testing.
Matthew 7:2 (NASB95) — 2 “For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you.
The Word of the Lord covers this in the second law.
Deuteronomy 19:18–21 (NASB95) — 18 “The judges shall investigate thoroughly, and if the witness is a false witness and he has accused his brother falsely, 19 then you shall do to him just as he had intended to do to his brother. Thus you shall purge the evil from among you. 20 “The rest will hear and be afraid, and will never again do such an evil thing among you. 21 “Thus you shall not show pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
This is the boomerang effect. That is what you cast out will return to you. What you cast on others spitefully with wrong motives will come back upon you.
It is the sowing and reaping principle
Galatians 6:7 (NASB95) — 7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.
Ok Christian. You found guilty one innocent of the charges and you cast a sentence and even if he is guilty what you have just done was remove the matter from God’s hand and brought that which was for another upon yourself.
It is so easy for some, more than others, to allow their thinking to drift in the area of judging a brother or sister and to allow the tongue to run down and to gossip about. And for this reason, many times we see the guilty get away with their sin while we are made to pay for it as God will take away from the guilty and place it upon those who put themselves up as judges.
In Judging others of sin whether real or imagined
1. Places stumbling blocks before a brother or sister causing them to stumble or taking them further into whatever they are struggling with.
2. It becomes the Christians own stumbling block taking one outside the boundaries of the spiritual life with Christ.
3. Takes away discipline that was correction for those who were guilty before God
4. Puts that discipline upon oneself adding not only to one’s own discipline for sin but the others sin as well as a compound discipline.
God takes Judging another seriously and to put yourself in God’s seat in judging others is not something that is taken lightly by God.
No study tonight and tomorrow Lord willing and spirit guiding we will talk about specks and logs.
