This morning, we come to the conclusion of this series on Discipleship, and we conclude with what I think is the climax of the entire concept of Christian Discipleship: The Model! The One after Whom we pattern our lives—the Lord Jesus Christ. For several weeks, we have explored Jesus’ consistent command, “Follow me.” And what we have seen is that this command, this call to discipleship, is a call to embark on the path that Jesus took. It’s not so much a matter of Jesus saying, “Follow me. I’m going to this place or that place.” It is more a matter of Jesus saying, “Follow me. Let me show you how you should live your life.” Paul, in his letter to the Corinthian church, was addressing the questions of grace and freedom in Christ, and he described it perfectly: 1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1 “...whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Give no offense, either to the Jews or to the Greeks or to the church of God, just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved. Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.”
