CAREER CHOICE
CELEBRITY SYNDROM Career has to make me into a celebrity If I’m not on the stage I don’t matter and wouldn’t make any difference Goal in life is to do what make difference not to make history Mother of Zebedee had this infection. Disciples had this sickness as well (Matthew 20:20-22) Run the race that is set before you. Good and faithful servant. .
INFECTED WITH DESTINATION SICKNESS College is the destination. You stop learning because you got the diploma Job is the destination. You stop working because you work full time job Two extremes: full time job with not using more brain verses full brain with no full time job Job is only a foundation to be build on…not destination
DO I LIKE DOING IT? Martyr Mindset - If it’s God’s will it has be something I don’t like! Not Mine but Yours will be done Ministry is a calling not a career Wrong motive to be in ministry are few: insecurity, control, or family Ministry is great obstacle to relationship with God. Ministry comes out of relationship, not relationship out of ministry Dark side of being a celebrity: stress of the job, lawsuits, no marriages, no privacy, no real friends Heath Ledger, Elvis, Anna Nicole Smith, Michael Jackson – used pills We can’t make you passionate, discover your passion AM I GOOD AT IT? Myth: Character is more important than your gift (lovely horrible singer) God didn’t choose any body to build the tabernacle (Ex.31:1-11) Myth: if don’t give up you’ll get better. Good things get better, bad things get worse Myth: if you’re good, you don’t need to improve. You can’t teach talent like skill Successful managers hire talents, not experience. Focus on strengths on weakness HOW MUCH DOES IT PAY? God sent spies twice to inspect the land. It being promise land doesn’t mean much, still investigate Gideon spied out the enemy Jesus said to count the cost (war, building a building) How much do I have to pay for it? How much will it pay me? (video games don’t pay; president 1 in 4) Hiring an employee: background check, people marry and don’t even know each other What’s the pay? David asked before fighting Goliath. Is it worth the risk?
