GIVE UP TO GO UP

Luke 5:5

1. Don't quit when you fail

Winners are not those who never fail, but those who don’t quit. (Peter and Judas)

Examples:

- Oprah was fired from her job as television reporter at 22 because she was “unfit for tv”.

- Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team.

- Steve Jobs was removed from company he started.

- R.H. Macy started seven failed business before finally hitting big with his story in NY.

- Soichiro Honda was turned down from job as engineer at Toyota and started making scooters on his own.

- Harland David Sanders had his secret chicken recipe rejected 1,009 times before restaurant accept it.

- Thomas Edison was told he was “too stupid to learn anything”

- Albert Einstein could not speak until 4 and could not read until 7.

- Howard Schultz gave up after being turned down by 242 banks

- Walt Disney quit after his theme park idea was trashed 302 times

“Don’t confuse your path with your destination, just because it’s stormy that does not mean you are not headed for sunshine. If you are planning to quit, don’t start. If you started, don’t give up”

When things go wrong, don’t go with them (Don’t go along with feelings, people, circumstances. Situation will mislead you. Men don’t drown by falling into water. It’s not over until God says its over).

You don’t know better - Jesus knows better!

2. Quit when you succeed

World is upside down: to find you have to lose, to be rich be poor, to live die, to be first be last, to honored be humble

A. Nothing is really yours, everything is really Gods. (“you deserve it” “you owe it to yourself” “it’s your right”). You are bought with the price. You are steward, not owner! Earth. body. birth, death, life!

When we don’t see Jesus as source of our life - we will not obey His instructions.

B. It’s always better to leave fish for Jesus than to leave Jesus for fish. Many love Jesus as Savior but not as Lord!

C. You can’t go up without giving up

To cleave you have to leave. Leave womb to get to earth. Leave earth to leave to heaven.

Abraham sacrificed blessing. Hannah gave up the miracle. Moses gave up the palace. Peter gave up the business.

Soul is greater than fish.

Souls are designed by God (designer clothes)

Souls are eternal, fish are not; things are not.

Souls don’t die, everything does!

Jesus died for souls!

(exposure to poverty, exposure to eternity)

Death is change of address.

Your goodness will not save you. Don’t measure yourself!
