Sticky Situations
Most used word for offense in Matthew 18:7 is skandalon was the trigger of a trap on which bait is placed. When an animal touches the trigger to eat the bait, the trap springs shut, and the animal is caught. When used in a moral context, skandalon indicates the enticement to conduct which will ruin the person in question.
Give God permission to get you to destination without using your directions. Get into house without front door. Fish, bread, Ravens, manna. Spit, wash, touch, spoke word, touch.
1. Sticky situation - when we fight for fairness instead of trusting for favor
“And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me. I went out full and the Lord hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the Lord hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me?” Ruth 1:20-21
Don’t let life define God at best you are limited at worse deceived.
You can’t judge a tree based on it’s season.
Favor comes to those who get treated unfairly but refuse to live offended.
2. Sticky situation - when our issues blur our identity
“And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,” Luke 8:43
“And He said to her, “Daughter, be of good cheer;[c] your faith has made you well. Go in peace.” Luke 8:48
Jesus calls her daughter. He calls her by her faith.
You are not sick person trying to get healthy.
Crippled man position changed. Condition covered.
3. Sticky situation - when we protect our feelings not our future
“Looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled” Hebrews 12:15
“For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.” Acts 8:23
Wrong way - medicate it (food sex alcohol, gambling), motivate it, (get busy to work to death; diligence is i do my best and stop; drivenness is do my best and don’t stop) and meditate it (sit and thing)
Right way is face it (it’s not how many good things you do for God but how many scars yo let him redeem), forgive (does not make them right it makes you free), follow Jesus away from it
4. Sticky situation - when you are trying to change those you are called to honor
Parents - Ham and Noah. David and Amnon. Jesus and Joseph.
Husband - Honor them where you want them to be. (Vashti and Esther. Sarah)
Pastor - Issue of submission either makes or breaks the curse. Moses. Saul
