Search for Significance In Suffering Mark 2:1-12 John 16:33 "I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world." Mark 2:2 And many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even at the door. And he was preaching the word to them. Mark 4:33 With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it. Mark 1:14,15 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, 15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel." 1. The preaching of the Word (v. 1-2) 2 Timothy 4:1,2 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. "If today's church is to be strengthened, decisive steps must be taken to recover authentic biblical preaching. A genuine revival requires a renewed commitment to expository preaching. We must recapture the life-changing power of the preached word and fill the pulpit once again with heart-searching expositions of Scripture. The church desperately needs leaders who will not play at preaching, but proclaim the truth, knowing eternal destinies are at stake." - Steven Lawson; Called to Preach 2. The bringing of the wounded (v. 3-5) Mark 2:4 And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay. Mark 2:5 And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven." Galatians 6:2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 3. The questioning of the skeptical (v. 6-7) John 9:2 And his disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" John 9:3 Jesus answered, "It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him." John 14:9 Whoever has seen me has seen the Father John 5:23 that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. Philippians 2:10,11 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 4. The pronouncement of the Savior (vs. 8-11) Mark 2:9-11 Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Rise, take up your bed and walk'? 10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins"-he said to the paralytic- 11 "I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home." 5. The response of the healed (vs. 12) Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. 6. The Worship of the redeemed (vs. 12) Mark 2:12 so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!" 1
