Heavenly Minded

The Sermon on the Mount 9
We are in the middle of series on the Sermon on the Mount
We are in the book of Mathew chapter 6
This is a wonderful sermon,
The sermon Is about the kingdom of God.
Our Lord was concerned to describe a citizen of the kingdom Heaven
In the beatitudes he describes the essential nature of the Christian man or woman.
Then he immediately begins to share how a citizen of the kingdom relates to the law.
Jesus ends with
Mat 5:48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Christian walking and living in this world
Heavenly minded

1 Treasures in Heaven

Mat 6:19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
The bible don’t tell us to be poor or not to have investments, you may have a little or in abundance, just be heavenly minded.
When a country is not doing well economically, we begin to hear about different fears, fears of a recession, we begin to hear from the experts, how to invest our money, because they know better, not long ago the bitcoin was it, unfortunately if you bought it at $40 thousand today is only worth $19 thousand a major lost on your investment and there is no guarantee that will come back, gold goes up and down, I have met people who made a fortune in gold, there are waves that if ridden on the right time can work, we just don’t know when. In 2007 gold was $600 by 2012 was $2000 went up and down a year ago was $2000 again today is at $1600 an oz.
I have seen friends making a fortune during difficult times, they were praying asking the Lord to guide them and over night they went from homeless to riches.
Deu 8:18 But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.
Mat 6:20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
But if I store treasures in heaven, no robber or anything will destroy it, how do I store treasures in heaven?
Mat 19:21 Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
God’s economy is a little different then ours, give to the poor to those in need, and follow Jesus.
Mat 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Jesus again is after our hearts, if our treasure is here on earth, fortune, fame, possessions, our hearts will desire material things, beyond what we need. If our heart is in heaven, we will desire spiritual things what God desires.
Now one is temporal, the other is eternal. And if you lay up your treasures on earth they, at best are temporal; you lay up your treasures in heaven, they are eternal.

2 Our spiritual eyes.

Mat 6:22 "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.
Your spiritual eyes, if they are healthy, you will see things right, the way we approach life is refreshing and exciting, you will be full of light, and people around will see your light. There are people that just walk into a room and you notice their presence, the place just became brighter and exciting.
Mat 6:23 But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
But if our spiritual eyes are unhealthy, you will be full of darkness, the way you see things is dark, your presence brings darkness, evil.
Have you ever walk by a parking lot and all the sudden you feel this creepie feeling, like is something evil or not right, in the car you are about to walk by, so you cross the road, than you look back and you see a shade character in there, a very dark presence.
Mat 6:24 "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
So this all has to do with laying up treasures. If mammon is where your heart is, if that is the thing that has mastered your life, you are mastered by your possessions, you cannot then be a servant of God also. You cannot serve God and mammon. You cannot be mastered by two masters. You begin to neglect the one along the line; you’ll hold the one and hate the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Man have tried to do it but you can’t do it.
The Rich Young Man
Mat 19:16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?"
Mat 19:17 "Why do you ask me about what is good?"Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments."
Mat 19:18 "Which ones?" he inquired. Jesus replied, "'You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony,
Mat 19:19 honor your father and mother,' and 'love your neighbor as yourself.'"
Mat 19:20 "All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?"
Mat 19:21 Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
Jesus had just offered this man the opportunity of a lifetime, come and walk with me, be my disciple leave everything behind and follow me.
Mat 19:22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.
Mat 19:23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 19:24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God."
I know some very Godly people who have great wealth and love the Lord, they use their money to support and advance missions and the gospel, others support orphans and poor families.
Jesus was going after this young man’s heart, the young man asked the question Jesus gave him the answer, just like the Pharisees, he saw himself obeying the law and doing everything right, Jesus discerned that his love for money was greater than his love for God.
All of us will have to make the same choice one day, let your love for God be your master.

3 Don’t worry

Do Not Be Anxious
Mat 6:25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?
The word translated “do not worry” in the Greek is “merimnao” take no thought,
Satan main concern is to keep our minds in those things distracting us, from what God is doing and saying.
Sometimes all the enemy has to do is to add two words to your question or thoughts “what if?” and all the sudden you find yourself in the middle of a storm.
when we allow the enemy to speak to us, and we are consumed by worry, we begin to experience the world, as distressing, threatening unsafe, we begin to develop a personality trait, that in psychology they will label you as Neurotic.
Worry is something that all of us struggle with. Jesus is letting us know that we are not alone that our Heavenly Father will take care of us.
Giving no thought is not to become, irresponsible, remain heavenly minded keep your eyes in heaven Of course
Jesus is giving us the way representing the degree which
The single eye
Mat 6:26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
This is not promoting idleness or telling us to be lazy or not to work is only to not be distracted by the worries of the world
the birds of the air don’t sit around waiting for food to be dropped into their mouths, they are always looking for it,
2Th 3:10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat."
there was a time that I saw birds more valuable than me, we are not going to talk about our value today but if you are listening, yes you are valued as much as Jesus, the son of God, He gave his life for you, the price paid for your salvation was the life of Jesus, that is your worth.
Mat 6:27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
We can not change anything by worrying about it, sometimes we worry about the same things time after time. We need to make a conscious choice to give it to the Lord
Mat 6:28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.
Mat 6:29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
Mat 6:30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?
Mat 6:31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'
Even the rich can worry about these things is not just the poor.
I remember many years ago meeting this man, he was a great person a great husband and dad, but seems like finances was always tight for him, always counting his money, glad they were in missions, but he definitely needed some help. One day by the grace of God, he received a revelation from the Lord, what I didn’t know was that he was quite well off, he had received this big inheritance from his dad but he decided not to use it or use it very meagerly, because he was afraid of losing it. Worry will keep us in prison.
Mat 6:32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
Php 4:6 Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God.
Php 4:7 And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours].
How do we, store treasures in Heaven, keep a single eye and don’t worry about food clothing and life
Mat 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
The Kingdom of God and his righteousness, Is a relationship with a Heavenly father who loves you when we say yes to Him, His kingdom comes, His righteousness
Mat 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
We usually worry about tomorrow not today, we got it
To become a Disciple, we need to make Jesus the Lord of our lives
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
