JESUS IS GOD
Who is God?
- Circumstances don’t reveal God
- Tradition does not tell us what God is like
- Looking within does not show God
- Nature is not reflection of God
So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. Matthew 19:17; Mark 10:18; Luke 18:19
1. Jesus was fully human
- He was born (Luke 2:7)
- Growing in stature and wisdom (Luke 2:52)
- Tired and thirsty (John 4:6, John 19:28)
- Human emotions (John 12:27, Matt 26:38, John 11:35)
- He died (Luke 23:46)
- Had a real human body after his resurrection (Luke 24:39, John 20:20,27)
Began as hungry yet Bread of Life, ended as thirsty yet Living Water. He was weary yet He is our rest. He paid tribute yet He is our King. Accursed of having demon, yet cast out demons. Wept yet He wipes our tears away. Sold for 30 pieces of silver yet He redeemed the world. Bought as lamb yet He is good shepherd. He died yet by His death destroyed power of death.
Story: Dian Fossey, forests of Rwanda, 1985 she died trying to defend them. This special type of gorillas in 1960 there were 475 of them, 1980 numbers dropped to 254. In 1984 she explained to BBC “"I'm an inhibited persona and I felt that the gorillas were somewhat inhibited as well, so I imitated their natural, normal behaviour like feeding, munching on celery stalks or scratching myself." She would also beat her chest with her fists and copy their belch-like calls. Among gorillas she had favorite, Digit, because of his crooked finger on 1977 he was cut to pieces by poachers. Dec.26, 1985 Dian Fossey was hacked to death with a machete.
Jesus relates to us and can help us
2. Jesus is the second person of the Trinity
Trinity seen in God’s Creation (Rom.1:20):
Time = present, past, and future
Matter = solid, liquid, and gas
Space = height, length, and width
Light = source, illumination, and energy
Water = two hydrogen and one oxygen
Atoms = neutrons, protons, and electrones
Fire = fuel, oxygen, and heat
Trinity at Creation (Gen.1:1-3)
Trinity in Gospels (Matt.3:16-17) Trinity in Great Commission (Matt.28:19)
Trinity in Epistles (2 Cor.13:14)
A PRETZEL has three holes. The first hole is not the second hole, the second hole is not the third hole, but the same dough ties all three holes together.
Example of fidget spinner!
Trinity teaches me about unity in family!
3. Jesus said that He was God
No other religious leader made such a claim.
Moses not Jehovah, Budda not God, Mohhamad not Allah.
“Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God” John 5:18
Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” John 8:58
“I and My Father are one.” John 10:30
Jesus forgave sins something only God can do (Luke 5:20)
Jesus accepted worship an equal to the Father (Matt.2:11; Matt.21:9; Matt.28:9)
4. Jesus is God and God is good.
God’s goodness is practical, not theoretical
Muhammad vs Jesus
Stoned women for adultery (Muslim 4206)
Married 13 wives and kept sex slaves. Slept with 9 year old child.
Murdered those who insulted him.
Ordered 65 military campaigns and raids in his last 10 years.
Blessed murder of blind man
Ordered a slave to build the very pulpit from which he preached
Advocated crucifying others
According to his followers: had others give their lives for him
Taste and see (Psalm 34:8)
Goodness leads to repentance (Romans 2:4)
The Seven “I AM” “Bread of Life” John 6:35, 48, 51 “Light of the World” John 8:12; 9:5
“Door” John 10:7, 9
“Good Shepherd” John 10:11, 14
“Resurrection and Life” John 11:25
“Way, Truth and Life” John 14:6
“True Vine” John 15:1
The tale of two sons: Mephibosheth (2Sam.9) and Hanun (2Sam.10)
Goodness will change or cover. To lead us to sin satan says God is withholding something. To keep us in sin satan says God will never forgive you.
Doubting God’s goodness leads us to sin. knowing God’s goodness leads us to repetnace.
