Nicodemus - Religious Man
There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:1-2
Nicodemus was a ruler
Nicodemus was religious
Nicodemus was right about Jesus
Jesus’ message to Nicodemus is “UNLESS ONE IS BORN AGAIN, HE CANNOT SEE THE KINGDOM”
Salvation is not a ticket to heaven but a birth into a new kingdom. Salvation is not escape, its entrance! Religion can’t save you because religion did not die on the cross for you.
Cornelius - Devout Man
There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment, a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. Acts 10:1-2
Cornelius feared God
Cornelius prayed always
Cornelius gave alms generously
Cornelius fasted
God’s message to Cornelius, “Send men to Joppa and send for Peter, he will tell you what you must do”
Good works can’t save you because your bad works condemn you. Salvation ushers the power of the Holy Spirit fell and they spoke in tongues.
Zacchaeus - Short Man
Then Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. Now behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature. So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way. Luke 19:1-4
Zacchaeus was rich, sinner, short, could not see Jesus, climbed on the tree.
Salvation is Jesus sees you, calls you by name, wants to go to your house, change you from inside out.
So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully. But when they saw it, they all complained, saying, “He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner.” Luke 19:6-7
