Identity Amnesia

"Cursed is the strong one who depends on mere humans, who thinks he can make it on muscle alone and sets God aside as dead weight. He's like a tumbleweed on the prairie, out of touch with the good earth. He lives rootless and aimless in a land where nothing grows.

"But blessed is the man who trusts me, God, the woman who sticks with God. They're like trees replanted in Eden, putting down roots near the rivers—never a worry through the hottest of summers, never dropping a leaf, serene and calm through droughts, bearing fresh fruit every season.

Jeremiah 17:5-8

Tumbleweed is rootless. Trees have roots near river.

Tumbleweed has no home. Trees are planted.

Tumbleweed is dry. Trees don’t die in hot summer.

Tumbleweed is aimless. Trees provide shade.

Tumbleweed is ruthless and irritating. Trees bear fruit.

New nature makes it natural to long after God (Ez.11:19; 36:26-27; Jer.31:31-34)

We can’t teach thirst. It’s natural to thirst.

People don’t thirst after God for two reasons:

- not born again (no amount of nurture changes nature of tumbleweed) - not renewed in their mind (tree living like a tumbleweed) sim card in wrong phone

Identity precedes intimacy.

I go to my dads house for no reason! I did not behave into this, I was born.

Get New ID: Branch. Sheep. Clay. Follower. Bride. Son. (Mt.9:14-17; Mark 2:18-22; Luke 5:33-39; Rom.12:2)

If are you not praying, you are struggling with identity amnesia.

New nature needs nurture. (Ps.1:1)

For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Col.3:3

Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Col.3:5

Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom.6:11

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. Rom.6:12

And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. Rom.6:13

Stand. Becoming the person I am. 2 Cor.5:21

Sit. Nurturing happens in the community. 59 “one-another”

The primary activity of the church was one-anothering one another.

When everyone is sitting in rows … you can’t do any one-anothers.

New nature needs nourishment. (Ps.1:2)

One of the basic signs of spiritual health is hunger. If you’re not hungry - you are sick. YOU NEED TO THROW UP!

The way to get your hunger back is to view the scriptures as food, not source of new information. Excuse: I know how steak tastes.

As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby 1 Peter 2:2

Jesus works on me through his word John 15:3; Eph.5:26; Ps.119:9, 11;

Washing of the water by the word - Jesus washing me.

You’re not serving God when you’re reading Bible, Jesus is washing you.

If you are clean, you only need wash. To be apart of me.

SOAP and KISS principle.

There is a demon called the bird whose purpose is to steal the word. Matt.13:4 Feed your spirit, not the bird. Bird is stronger, soil is vunerable.

When tree is in the soil, roots will find the river.
