This Week’s Theme: Disciples Sacrifice for God
This Week’s Word is Sacrifice: An important aspect of the relationship between God and humanity but whereas the OT describes many sacrifices, the New Testament announces the fulfillment of sacrifice in Jesus Christ.
Memory Verse: Romans 12:1 “1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”
Essence of the Text in a Sentence: After Peter testified to the twelve’s sacrifice, Christ told them that the sacrifice will not be without reward.
Sermon Proposition: Forsaking earthly relationships for Christ will reap spiritual dividends.
Sermon Objective: I want those in attendance to acknowledge their sin and stop putting and valuing earthly relationship above their Christ.
Sermon Text: Mark 10:28-31
Mark 10:28–31 NKJV
28 Then Peter began to say to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You.” 29 So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, 30 who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”
INTRODUCTION:
TRANSITION:
Mark 10:28 NKJV
28 Then Peter began to say to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You.”

I. DID YOU LEAVE ALL FOR CHRIST?

Mark 10:28-29; Matthew 19:27, 29;
Explain: [know this about God / know this about man]
Mark 10:28 NKJV
28 Then Peter began to say to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You.”
Matthew 19:27 NKJV
27 Then Peter answered and said to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?”
Mark 10:29 NKJV
29 So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s,
Matthew 19:29 NKJV
29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.

Illustrate: [show an example of one who knows and loves God’s Word, Will, and Ways]
Apply: [embrace this about God / embrace this about man]
What earthly relationships are you struggling with putting before your relationship Christ and His church?

II. DID YOU LISTEN TO CHRIST?

Matthew 10:34-37; Luke 12:49-53;
Explain: [know this about God / know this about man]
Matthew 10:34–37 NKJV
34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; 36 and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ 37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.
Illustrate: [show an example of one who knows and loves God’s Word, Will, and Ways]
Luke 12:49–53 NKJV
49 “I came to send fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am till it is accomplished! 51 Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division. 52 For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three. 53 Father will be divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”
Apply: [embrace this about God / embrace this about man]
What do saints tell each other to justify putting earthly relationship before our relationship with the brothers and sisters in the body of Christ? (Example: Families stick together!)

III. DO YOU SEE A RETURN?

Mark 10:29; Luke 18:30;
Mark 10:29 NKJV
29 So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s,
Luke 18:30 NKJV
30 who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and in the age to come eternal life.”
2 Corinthians 9:8–11 NKJV
8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. 9 As it is written: “He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.” 10 Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, 11 while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God.
How have you received more since you came to Christ?
